Samantha Power told Congress under oath ‘no recollection’ of Flynn unmasking, records show otherwise

The unmasking list released by Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell on Wednesday shows that Obama-era U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power issued seven separate unmasking requests from Nov. 30, 2016, to Jan. 11, 2017, pertaining to an individual cited in a National Security Agency intelligence report.

That individual is now known to have been then-incoming National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

The list, seen below, further proves that Power then lied to Congress on Oct. 13, 2017, by telling the House Intelligence Committee she had “no recollection” of ever issuing any unmasking requests pertaining to Flynn.

While requesting an unmasking isn’t illegal, lying to Congress certainly is. So is taking unmasked information and leaking it to the media.

The list released by Grenell specifically shows that Power issued an unmasking request seven separate times:

  • Once on Nov. 30, 2016
  • Once on Dec. 2, 2016
  • Once on Dec. 7, 2016
  • Twice on Dec. 14, 2016
  • Once on Dec. 23, 2016
  • Once on Jan. 11, 2017

Dec. 23, 2016, was the day Flynn spoke privately with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. The contents of that call were recorded by unknown Obama-era officials.

Months later in October of 2017, Power was questioned by the House Intelligence Committee about whether she’d ever issued unmasking requests pertaining to Flynn.

She said no, according to a transcript of that hearing that was finally released last week by current committee chair Adam Schiff after intense pressure from the right.

“I have no recollection of making a request related to General Flynn,” she claimed in direct contradiction of the now-known facts.

In other words, she lied, and lying to Congress is indeed a crime.

The evidence also points to others having lied, including former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, according to Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

“Clapper made at least three unmasking requests. … which is a different number than old Clapper told Congress,” she said late Wednesday on FNC’s “The Ingraham Angle.”

Fact-check: TRUE.

“Yes, in one case I did that I can specifically recall, but I can’t discuss it any further than that,” he said while testifying to Congress in May of 2017.

Listen to Clapper below:

What remains unknown is which one of these liars was responsible for leaking information from the NSA’s intelligence report to the media.

“And then comes Jan. 12th, 2017,” Ingraham continued Wednesday. “That’s the day Washington Post columnist David Ignatius published a column mentioning the call and the possible Logan Act violation. Who made an unmasking request that day? Ready for it? We need the drumroll.”

“There he is, Vice President of the United States and future presidential candidate Joe Biden. Stand up, people, give him some applause for that one. That might strike all of you as odd given … Joe’s recollection of the events surrounding Flynn.”

Speaking on ABC News a day earlier on Tuesday, Biden claimed complete ignorance.

“I was aware that there was, that they had asked for an investigation but that’s all I know about it,” he claimed in contradiction of since-uncovered evidence.

“This is all about diverting attention from the horrible way in which he has acted,” Biden said. “We don’t have coronavirus because of him, but we have the devastating impact of it because of his lack of a policy, because of his lack of action. It’s all about diversion.”

Is it, though?

Going back to the leak to Ignatius, whoever forwarded the information could face time behind bars, according to renowned non-establishment journalist Glenn Greenwald.

“That ‘senior U.S. government official’ committed a serious felony by leaking to Ignatius the communication activities of Flynn,” he warned on Feb. 14, 2017, days after the publication of Ignatius’s piece.

He added that this “senior U.S. government official” wasn’t alone.

“Similar and even more extreme crimes were committed by what the Washington Post called ‘nine current and former officials, who were in senior positions at multiple agencies at the time of the calls,’ who told the paper for its February 9 article that ‘Flynn privately discussed U.S. sanctions against Russia with that country’s ambassador to the United States during the month before President Trump took office, contrary to public assertions by Trump officials,'” Greenwald explained.

“The New York Times, also citing anonymous U.S. officials, provided even more details about the contents of Flynn’s telephone calls.”

He added: “That all of these officials committed major crimes can hardly be disputed.”

But who exactly are these officials? The only way to know is to “unmask” them just like THEY unmasked Michael Flynn, ironically enough.
