A former Defense Department official during President Obama’s administration admitted under oath that she lied during an MSNBC interview about evidence allegedly ‘proving’ the 2016 campaign of President Donald Trump ‘colluded’ with Russia to steal the election from Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton.

Evelyn Farkas, who served as deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia, testified before the House Intelligence Committee on June 26, 2017, as part of the panel’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Lawmakers focused on an MSNBC appearance where she urged intelligence community officials to spread throughout government any incriminating evidence they had about President Trump and his administration, even suggesting they leak such information to the media.

“I had a fear that somehow that information would disappear with the senior [Obama administration] people who left…[that] it would be hidden away in the bureaucracy,” she said.

Farkas also said that administration officials Trump appointed could even destroy evidence of collusion if they “found out how we knew what we knew about the Trump staff’s dealing with Russians.”

Trump officials might “try to compromise those sources and methods,” she continued in the interview. “And we could no longer have access to that intelligence.

“Not enough was coming out into the open and I knew there was more,” Farkas went on to claim.

However, when she was questioned under oath about what she claimed during the interview, Farkas changed her story, according to the transcript below.

“Why don’t we go back to that sentence that I just asked you about. It says ‘the Trump folks, if they found out how we knew what we knew about their staff dealing with Russians,” then-Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) said. “Well, how would you know what the U.S. government knew at that point? You didn’t work for it, did you?”

“I didn’t,” said Farkas, who left her job at the Defense Department in 2015.

“Then how did you know?” Gowdy asked.

“I didn’t know anything,” Farkas responded.

Gowdy pressed, “Did you have information connecting the Trump campaign to the hack of the DNC?”

“No,” Farkas would admit.

“So when you say, ‘We knew,’ the reality is you knew nothing,” Gowdy asked at another point during the deposition.

“Correct,” Farkas — a Democrat who is currently running for a congressional seat in New York’s 17th District — responded.

Speaking of her congressional bid, The Intercept named some of her political benefactors in April:

In the crowded race in New York’s 17th Congressional District, the top Democratic fundraiser — an alum of former President Barack Obama’s Defense Department — is receiving financial support from the defense industry; prominent Republicans, including a controversial diplomat who played a key role in the Iraq War; and lobbyists who have represented foreign dictatorships that are known human rights abusers.

Being in government is lucrative, especially being associated with the Defense Department. The Intercept reported further that she “has received campaign contributions of at least $100,000 from defense contractors and employees of lobbying firms” including “executives at Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.”

Proving ‘the D.C. Swamp’ is bipartisan, Farkas has also received a notation from John Negroponte, the former director of national intelligence and ambassador to Iraq under George W. Bush who advocated for the invasion of that country in 2003, and Ken Duberstein, Ronald Reagan’s former chief of staff.
