President says Fauci testimony to ‘Trump haters’ in House is a ‘set up’, gives Senate green light

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he would allow Dr. Anthony Fauci to testify before the Senate next week, but that the nation’s top infectious diseases expert would not be permitted to testify before the House.

Not that it was necessary to clarify, but the president explained the reason behind the latter decision is the Democrat-run House of Representatives is full of “Trump haters.”

“The House is a set up,” Trump told White House reporters. “The House is a bunch of Trump haters.”

“They, frankly, want our situation to be unsuccessful, which means death,” Trump said.

“But Dr. Fauci will be testifying in front of the Senate, and he looks forward to doing that,” he added. “But the House I will tell you, the House, they should be ashamed of themselves. And, frankly, the Democrats should be ashamed, because they don’t want us to succeed. They want us to fail so they can win an election — which they’re not going to win.”

Given that Speaker Nancy Pelosi weaponized the lower chamber last year to remove him from office, the president was speaking from experience.

Democrats were talking impeachment before Trump took office and were looking for any reason to pounce. While Pelosi held off early on, she eventually succumbed to the pressure from the hard-left progressive faction of the party and moved forward with the Ukrainian controversy served up by a whistleblower linked to House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif.

Having two articles of impeachment approved without a single Republican vote, the partisan effort blew up in the face of Democrats when it moved to the upper chamber.

Pelosi recently formed a new select committee to oversee the $2 trillion coronavirus relief package. The third-ranked House Democrat, Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C., is expected to lead the committee and the speaker named six others last week.

Included in the six was Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., a rabid Trump hater.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Calif., hit the nail on the head when he said in a tweet last week: “Mark my words, Speaker Pelosi’s coronavirus committee is just Impeachment 2.0.”

The administration issued new guidance instructing coronavirus task force members not to accept invitations to participate in congressional hearings unless approved by White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, The Hill reported.

Pelosi appeared on home turf Monday in an interview with CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer and suggested that the administration “might be afraid of the truth.”

She claimed Democrats need to hear from coronavirus task force members to direct resources in upcoming coronavirus relief measures — the last four bills were passed without testimony from these officials.

“The fact is that we need to allocate resources for this,” said the lover of expensive ice cream. “In order to do that, any appropriations bill must begin in the House. And we have to have the information to act upon.”

The speaker characterized what will surely be a partisan attempt to take out Trump as Democrats “very, very strictly insisting on the truth.”

The White House prevented Fauci from testifying in the House last week, calling it “counterproductive.”

“While the Trump Administration continues its whole-of-government response to COVID-19, including safely opening up America again and expediting vaccine development, it is counter-productive to have the very individuals involved in those efforts appearing at Congressional hearings,” White House spokesperson Judd Deere said in a statement.  “We are committed to working with Congress to offer testimony at the appropriate time.”
