One-quarter of Dems want to replace Biden atop 2020 ticket after watching sexual assault denial, survey finds

A growing number of Democrat voters aren’t buying Joe Biden’s denial of sexual assault allegations stemming from an alleged 1993 incident involving then-Senate staffer Tara Reade, according to a new survey.

A new Morning Consult poll found that roughly one-in-four self-identified Democrats, or 26 percent, said they “definitely” or “probably” would support replacing Biden as the party’s 2020 presidential nominee after watching his denial during an MSNBC interview last week with Mika Brzezinski.

That said, more than six-in-10, or 61 percent, said they do not want the former vice president and long-serving Delaware senator to leave the race, while one in eight respondents did not have an opinion one way or the other.

Meanwhile, the same percentage of Democrats, about one quarter, found his denial to be “somewhat” or “very” credible, though 19 percent did not believe Biden when he claimed definitively that the alleged assault “never, never happened.”

The survey found that 24 percent of male Democrats want Biden to step aside, though two out of three, roughly, said he shouldn’t. About 28 percent of women want the party to select a different nominee, while 60 percent are sticking by Biden.

Importantly, Democrats under the age of 45 were keener to replace Biden; four-in-10 backed picking a different nominee, which was about the same number (42 percent) who want to stick with him.

The number of Democrat voters who want to replace Biden is far higher than the number of Republican voters who wanted to boot then-GOP nominee Donald Trump after the “Access Hollywood” tape was released.

The tape, which had existed since 2005, “was leaked by the NBC News division, by somebody at the ‘Today’ show,” a source said at the time. In the video, Trump joked and bragged about past sexual exploits and grabbing women in their private parts.

Trump immediately apologized for the remarks. The tape was leaked not only to harm Trump’s presidential bid, but also Billy Bush, an NBC personality who was not well-liked at the network, according to Page Six.

Bush, a cousin to failed 2016 GOP presidential contender Jeb Bush, wound up getting fired from the network.

As for Biden and Reade, several people have corroborated her story. They include her late mother, brother, and former neighbor, as well as close friends who say Reade told them of the incident shortly after it allegedly occurred.

It should also be noted, again, that Reade has filed a criminal complaint against Biden.

Reade has accused Biden of holding her up against a wall near the U.S. Capitol Building in 1993 before kissing her and penetrating her vagina with his fingers. She said that Biden told her, “C’mon man, I heard you liked me,” after she rejected his advance.

Pressure had been mounting on Biden to address the allegations himself — not through his campaign — before he sat for the interview with Brzezinski.

Late last month, for instance, the Washington Post editorial board pressed the former VP “to listen and to reply” to Reade’s allegations.
