Jake Tapper’s job security at CNN may possibly be in doubt after he actually posed some tough, or quasi-tough, questions to a Democrat this morning, in this case, lockdown-loving, power-hungry Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
On his show State of the Union, Tapper asked the governor why she discounted ex-U.S. Senate staffer Tara Reade’s sexual assault allegation against presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden given that she went on the record — like all lockstep members of her party — in backing Christine Blasey Ford’s claims against now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh, a Trump appointee.
Tapper even called attention to the fact that Reade’s accusation has far more corroboration Ford’s did.
“Why do you believe Biden and not Kavanaugh?” Tapper wondered.
Whitmer, a self-described feminist and an assault survivor, responded in this manner, which does little or nothing to dispel the notion that a politicized double-standard is in play.
“We need to give people an opportunity to tell their story, but then we have a duty to vet it, and just because you’re a survivor doesn’t mean that every claim is equal. It means we give them the ability to make their case and the other side as well, and then to make a judgment that is informed. I have read a lot about this current allegation. I know Joe Biden, and I’ve watched his defense, and there’s not a pattern that goes into this. And I think for these reasons, I’m very comfortable that Joe Biden is who he says he is.”
The somewhat robotic Whitmer apparently disregarded the fact that there was no pattern of untoward behavior by Brett Kavanaugh. In fact, all indications were that he led an exemplary lifestyle.
And did Democrat politicians really take the time to engage in “informed” vetting of Blasey Ford’s allegations?
Whitmer went on to express resentment that survivors always are expected to chime in on these sorts of allegations. Tapper pointed out that he is raising the allegation swirling around Biden because Whitmer was the only Democrat on the show rather than her being a survivor.
Whitmer explained in a remote interview that had some transmission issues that she wasn’t leveling any criticism at Tapper for doing his job, but wants to move on.
“I’m just sharing I think some of the simmering, you know, anger that we survivors have every time, that we’ve got to confront this from someone else’s behavior that we weren’t a party to…What I think is this: We owe it to every woman who has a story, to listen to that story, and then to vet that story, ask the questions and be critical thinkers and then make the judgment based on all of those pieces. I’ve done that in this instance. And I’ll tell you this, I don’t believe that it’s consistent with the Joe Biden that I know, and I do believe Joe. And I support Joe Biden.”
Whitmer’s support for Sleepy Joe may be predicated on her supposedly being present on the shortlist for VP on the Biden ticket.
Democrats seem to have abandoned their automatic support of #MeToo and #BelieveAllWomen now that Joe Biden is under scrutiny.
Tapper defaulted to the fake news CNN narrative, however, by allowing Gretchen Whitmer to smear grassroots protesters at the Michigan state capitol in Lansing who just want to go back to work as racists.
