Don Lemon pitches fit over scaled back White House briefings, claims it’s a ruse to trick Americans

CNN host Don Lemon is blasting the White House’s decision to end President Donald Trump’s daily coronavirus briefings, claiming it’s just a trick to fool Americans into believing that the pandemic is easing.

In a rant to lead off his program Wednesday, Lemon — who has continued to be paid throughout the pandemic — ripped into the president’s decision to recommend states begin reopening their economies.

“That’s all part of the plan for you to think that this is over,” the CNN host said, without evidence.

Lemon then played a clip of President Trump during a roundtable meeting business owners in which he suggested that the coronavirus could be completely eradicated by fall — in time for football season.

He went onto accuse the president of ignoring his coronavirus experts — presumably Drs. Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx — without mentioning that they have been wrong a number of times regarding their claims about COVID-19 and its lethality.

Lemon then introduced his conspiracy that Trump was ending White House briefings in an effort to falsely convince Americans that the country can, and is, returning to normal.

“Let me just say something before I move on with what I have planned here,” he began.

“I’ve seen so many people out and about lately not socially distancing, not wearing masks, not following the rules. This is not over,” Lemon said. “You may think it’s over because if you — if you actually pay attention to what’s happening in Washington with this administration, not having the briefings, trying to — pretending that this is over.

“They want to move on to other things. So not having those briefings, that’s all part of the plan for you to think that this is over, that we have moved beyond this,” he added.

“People are still dying at alarming rates. Those quarantine orders that are given, they’re still in place. There are still orders in most places. So don’t get it twisted. Don’t sit there and think that this is over because you’ve just — you’ve been in the house for a long time. That’s not so,” he said.

Quite clearly, as seen in the clip above, the president doesn’t want Americans to get used to this ‘new normal’ of our society being shut down. He wants Americans working and he would like for that to happen sooner rather than later, as he has stated a number of times.

But also clearly, Lemon seems to forget that just a few weeks ago, he and other “mainstream media” outlets were calling for censoring President Trump’s daily coronavirus press conferences.

“I have said I don’t think that you should really listen to what he says, you should listen to what the experts say,” Lemon said in late March.

“I’m not actually sure, if you want to be honest, that we should carry that live. I think we should run snippets. I think we should do it afterwards and get the pertinent points to the American people because he’s never, ever going to tell you the truth,” he claimed — again, without evidence.

“And guess what he’s gonna do. If you ask a question that is a legitimate question, and if he doesn’t like the question, he’s gonna say whether you’re being mean or not or whatever he wants to call it, he’s gonna say, ‘That is a mean, nasty question.’ Why? Because he wants his base to think that the media is being mean to him and they’re attacking him,” he added.

So, in a matter of a few weeks, Lemon has gone from wanting to censor the president to some wild conspiracy that the daily COVID-19 briefings are coming to an end because Trump is trying to trick the country into thinking things are improving.

In fact, coronavirus infection and death rates are leveling off or falling, which is why the president believes now is the time for states to begin reopening.

Also, there is this: While Lemon continues to be paid, more than 30 million Americans have lost their jobs over the past six weeks, according to the latest unemployment claims figures.
