‘Nauseating and sacrilegious’: Candace Owens calls out photo of healthcare workers imitating Jesus’ Last Supper

Conservative activist and #Blexit founder Candace Owens has called out doctors and nurses for posing in a “blasphemous” image emulating Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic, 15th-century Last Supper mural painting.

On Twitter, Owens described the photo of healthcare workers imitating Jesus and the apostles apparently taken at a Paris hospital, as “nauseating” and “sacrilegious.”

She strongly disagreed with the implication that healthcare workers on the job during the coronavirus pandemic are comparable to what Jesus went through.

According to Summit News, the Da Vinci re-creation was posted to the Instagram page of the Hôpital de la Salpêtrière, with a caption that read “Huge thanks to our daily heroes!” as translated from French.

Owens also declared that “I’ve ignored the media’s absurd comparisons to doctors and nurses to soldiers on D-Day. But this really elevates the rhetoric to the point of no return. It is possible to support doctors and nurses without blasphemous hyperbole.”

Similarly, triumphant nurses dancing in TikTok videos started as fun and a legitimate way for them to let off steam. Increasingly, the clips become a public relations problem, if not a fundamental credibility issue, given claims that hospitals are on the verge of collapse as a result of treating COVID-19 patients..

Indeed, many hospitals reportedly have had to layoff staff because of the ban on elective surgeries and other forms of treatment have emptied out their facilities. Elective is a broad term that describes care that can be nonetheless important, if not crucial, to a patient’s health and well being.

Candace Owens, who is mulling a run for office, has consistently maintained that the government and medical authorities have overreacted to the coronavirus outbreak. In so doing, they have destroyed the U.S. booming economy in the process by keeping most of the population in the equivalent of house arrest rather than letting uninfected people go back to work.

She recently prompted controversy on social media by complaining about having to wear  a face mask at Whole Foods, deeming it a form of tyranny.

Owens has also questioned the conventional wisdom of social distancing in a minimum of six feet and the logic behind wide-ranging, compulsory testing for the disease.

Some of Owens’ followers have weighed in on The Last Supper imagery.

Candace Owens broke two stories recently that the liberal media would have otherwise ignored because it didn’t fit their narrative.

One was the apparent scandal involving Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum for the Democrat’s extra-curricular activities in a Miami hotel room. The other involved Connecticut’s Democrat governor allegedly lying about an infant dying of the coronavirus.
