Navy veteran and Republican congressional candidate Joe Collins has a simple message for the people of California’s 43rd Congressional District and, really, the entire Democrat-run state: “We deserve better.”

During a peaceful demonstration across from the Los Angeles City Hall building on Saturday, Collins pointed out a number of longstanding issues and problems within the district and throughout the state that the current crop of leaders have failed to address.

Among them, his rival: Incumbent Rep. “Crazy Maxine” Waters, as President Trump has tabled her — who has held her seat continually for nearly three decades.

“Right across the street from City Hall,” Collins noted during his Saturday demonstration. “No disrespect to law enforcement for being out here and making sure everyone’s safe. But we need the mayor to answer for this.”

That would be Eric Garcetti, another Democrat whose policies have only exacerbated the city’s problems with homelessness, for example, and lack of infrastructure development.

“We need [Gov.] Gavin Newsom (D) to answer for this. We need every single legislator in Los Angeles County to answer for this. Because this is ridiculous. We deserve better.

“But yet, they want to impeach President Trump,” Collins continued. “At least he’s trying. He may not be perfect, but at least he’s trying to do something.”

Collins said the president is trying to address problems within California that the state’s lawmakers — and congressional delegation — ought to be tackling.

The Navy vet and South Central LA native said he’s running “because we need to take care of our own people. Long gone are the days when we have politicians that just sit around and talk about what they’re gonna do.

“We need action,” he said.

Specifically, Collins noted that homelessness, which has exploded in several California cities in recent years due to Democrat policies that decriminalized many street-level activities, has not been addressed. And he also called for “better jobs” for inner-city residents.

“What we have now is ridiculous. It’s time for us to stand up together and fight,” he continued. “It doesn’t matter if you’re a Democrat, doesn’t matter if you’re a Republican, doesn’t matter if you’re a Libertarian, it doesn’t matter … what political party you’re from.

“Everybody in South Los Angeles is struggling, and we have to stand up and we have to tell them, no more,” Collins continued.

Collins is also planning a May 1 demonstration outside the LA City Hall building as well. “This will be a driving protest to make our voices heard and will be done safely in accordance with local law enforcement,” his official Twitter account noted.

As for Waters, of course, she has been a vocal critic of the president and one of the first to call for his impeachment. In fact, she called for the president’s impeachment a mere two months into his term.

For his part, Collins believes Waters’ time has long since passed, and he wants voters to recognize that it’s not about political parties, per se, it’s about getting things done or, in the case of his opponent and her Democratic colleagues, not getting things done.
