On Thursday, Fox News host Tucker Carlson railed against Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s “arbitrary fascism,” decrying her capricious decision to allow her constituents to purchase luxuries such as marijuana, alcohol and lottery tickets, but forbid them from buying items such as furniture and garden seeds.
“When the coronavirus hit Michigan in force last month, Whitmer had no clue what to do, so she responded with a mixture of comical ineptitude and a weird kind of arbitrary fascism,” he declared.
And so she “banned the sale of carpets and paint and potted plants” and “told people they couldn’t fish or go to church or drive alone to their own homes.”
“But at the same time,” Carlson continued, “Whitmer kept liquor stores, weed shops and lotto kiosks open because — and this was purely an epidemiological matter in the interest of public health — those were ‘essential services,’ quote. They also happen to provide massive tax revenue to her government.”

“The whole thing was ridiculous,” he continued. “It was just a matter of time before the people suffering under this insanity said something about it, and yesterday they did.”
Indeed. Thousands of Michigan residents congregated outside the state Capitol to wave flags, honk their horns and hold up signs that read “Gov. Whitmer We Are Not Prisoners” and “Michigander Against Gretchen’s Abuses,” among other examples.

“Thousands of Michigan residents drove to the state Capitol in Lansing to express their displeasure. They didn’t hurt anyone while they were there. They did it peacefully, as is their enshrined right under the American Constitution,” Carlson noted.
“But Governor Whitmer didn’t like this. In fact, she was outraged. If there’s one thing Gretchen Whitmer doesn’t care for, it’s civil disobedience, especially when it’s aimed at her. As Whitmer explained yesterday, complaining about her decisions could kill people.”
She wasn’t alone in her complaints. Race-baiting Michigan Rep. Debbie Dingell also blasted the protesters, going so far as to essentially accuse them of being Nazis.
“What happened yesterday was inexcusable,” she claimed during an appearance on MSNBC. “People did not have masks. They didn’t have gloves. They did not distance themselves. They had Confederate flags, swastikas. They blocked an ambulance trying to get to a hospital.”
“Bringing hate and fear into a time that’s already full of fear and anxiety is just unacceptable. There were people barehanded handing candy to children. What they did was help spread this disease around the state more, most likely, not contribute to the mitigation, and it just made me sad.”
She conveniently neglected to mention that the swastikas were included in signs meant to portray Whitmer as a dictator equivalent to deceased Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler:

“Oh, sad? Debbie Dingell is sad,” Carlson continued as he ratcheted up the sarcasm. “She’s sad that people are expressing inconvenient political beliefs when they should be drinking alone at home or obediently buying more state-sponsored lotto tickets.”
“Why can’t they hit Michigan’s entirely ‘essential’ weed stores and numb out as their benevolent leader Gretchen solidifies her control over their lives. Why do they have to complain all the time? Saying unapproved things is racist. It inspires fear and hate. Stop it right now, you prols! How dare you! Fire up a bowl, and accept your fate!”
“Prols” was short for proletariat, i.e., everyday wage earners who lack political power and are expected by their political “betters” to bow to their authority.
As more protests have emerged throughout the country, members of the Democrat Party and their media allies have predictably rushed to disparage them. It’s a phenomenon that classical liberal commentator Tim Pool has found troubling.
“It seems like every day this crisis is continuing, we are losing more and more of our rights, and many people are just bending over backwards to say, ‘Go ahead, government, do whatever you want.’ I see tons of progressives that have adopted a tribalist stance that you should not be defending your rights,” he noted in a recent podcast.
