Far-left New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio claims that the Big Apple will run out of ventilators by Tuesday or Wednesday and needs an influx of about 1,500 more of the breathing devices from the federal or state government for coronavirus patients.
“We believe now we can get to Tuesday or Wednesday with the supplies we have,” he said
The failed presidential candidate previously insisted that the city, which is a hotspot for the disease, would have already run out of the medical devices by now.
Apparently New York City has a reserve of just 135 ventilators.
To date, the city has experienced 2,472 deaths from COVID-19 out of 64,500 confirmed cases, according to the Daily Mail.
Last Friday during a radio interview, de Blasio insisted that health officials only learned that asymptomatic people can spread this disease “in the last 48 hours.”
Mayor de Blasio has also called upon President Trump to “force” medical professionals from across the country to help out in the city as well as appealing to medical volunteers throughout the U.S. and across the globe to assist in the local health emergency.
Unable to put identity politics aside even during an epidemic, de Blasio disparaged the Christian charity Samaritan’s Purse for setting up a temporary field hospital in New York City’s Central Park.
In the meantime, the U.S. military’s Northern Command is deploying 1,000 medical workers to the city to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the war against COVID-19.
While New York City faces immense challenges from the pandemic, a doctor who operates 30 temporarily closed medical clinics with a total of 600 beds and equipped with oxygen machines claims that de Blasio’s City Hall bureaucrats have ignored his offer to help out in the crisis, the New York Post reported.
“De Blasio said right now I will take beds anywhere and everywhere. What the hell is he talking about?,”said Dr. Yan Katsnelson.
With its first recorded decrease in coronavirus fatalities, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo suggested on Sunday that the state might be reaching a plateau in the pandemic, with the daily death toll dropping from 630 to 594.
New York City Mayor de Blasio previously faced criticism for being slow to release coronavirus-related statistics such as neighborhood outbreak numbers and the capacities of both city hospitals and morgues.
More recently, he was subject scrutiny for not wearing a mask or apparently violating his own shelter-in-place recommendations while taking a long walk around the city. He previously prompted controversy by working out at his gym hours after ordering all health clubs in the city to shut down.
Focusing on his dithering, inconsistent leadership during the crisis, the very liberal New York magazine recalled that Bill de Blasio originally opined that “If you’re under 50 and you’re healthy, which is most New Yorkers, there’s very little threat here.”
