The Arizona woman who, along with her husband, ingested a toxic chemical used to clean fish tanks in a bid to prevent the coronavirus, resulting in the man’s death, is a “prolific” donor to Democratic causes.
That’s according to The Washington Free Beacon, which reported Monday that in late February, the 61-year-old woman, identified only as Wanda, donated to the 314 Action Fund, which is a Democratic PAC that bills itself as the “pro-science resistance.”
The group has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration’s response to the virus outbreak, and used Wanda’s case to slam the White House, the Free Beacon reported.
Wanda said she and her husband self-medicated with the fish tank cleaner because it had chloroquine phosphate listed as an ingredient, after hearing President Trump talk about the anti-malarial drug chloroquine having favorable effects on some people infected with COVID-19.
Among the recipients of donations from Wanda includes Hillary Clinton, the failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.
More from Free Beacon:
Federal Election Commission records show that Wanda has donated thousands of dollars to Democratic electoral groups and candidates over the past two years, including Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and EMILY’s List, a group that aims to elect pro-choice female candidates. […]
Wanda does not appear to have a long history of political donations, according to FEC reports. Her contributions to Democrats rose sharply over the past few years. Her first recorded political donation was $150 to Hillary Clinton in 2016, according to FEC records. The next year she gave $550 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Since 2018, she has contributed approximately $6,000 to Democratic electoral groups.
Wanda told the Free Beacon she decided at the “spur of the moment” to take the fish tank cleaner after she and her husband, both Democrats, heard in news reports about possible benefits of taking chloroquine.
“We weren’t big supporters of [Trump], but we did see that they were using it in China and stuff,” she said. “And we just made a horrible, tragic mistake. It was stupid, and it was horrible, and we should have never done it. But it’s done and now I’ve lost my husband. And my whole life was my husband.”
“We didn’t think it would kill us,” she added. “We thought if anything it would help us ‘cus that’s what we’ve been hearing on the news.”
In an interview last week with NBC News, Wanda was more pointed in her remarks, prompting the Trump-hating media to run with headlines that effectively pinned her husband’s death on the president.
“We saw Trump on TV — every channel — and all of his buddies and that this was safe,” Wanda said. “Trump kept saying it was basically pretty much a cure.”
Woman in ICU: "Trump kept saying it was basically pretty much a cure."
NBC: "What would be your message to the American public?"
Woman: "Oh my God. Don't take anything. Don't believe anything. Don’t believe anything that the President says & his people…call your doctor." https://t.co/C8EiTQQ3r1 pic.twitter.com/UAOXBNsS4t— Vaughn Hillyard (@VaughnHillyard) March 24, 2020
Donald Trump Jr. re-tweeted a thread from Techno Frog, a Twitter account by an attorney and researcher, that detailed the woman’s history — citing court records, the Techno Frog tweet said Wanda “has a history of mental illness (paranoia, depression) and had considered divorcing her husband as far back as 2012.”
“I look forward to the media follow up to this story,” the president’s eldest son and namesake said. “I mean they were very fast to blame Trump for this couple dosing themselves with Fish Ta[n]k Cleaner Face with rolling eyes that people likely deserve to hear this part too? No?”
