Dems hold up COVID-19 relief to fight for Planned Parenthood funds. Ted Cruz calls them out.

If there is one constant with the Democratic Party, other than the given pursuit of identity politics, it would be the never-ending effort to steer money to the country’s leading abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was under fire last week when the Democrat tried to slip a provision in the $8.3 billion bill that provided emergency funding for federal agencies to respond to the outbreak of the Chinese virus COVID-19.

In effect, Democrats tried to skirt the Hyde Amendment, which bans federal funding for abortion except in cases of rape, incest, and life endangerment.

And as the Trump White House and the Senate effectively reach an agreement on a massive $2 trillion-plus coronavirus relief package late Tuesday to boost the reeling economy and help the American people, there was reportedly another attempt to make Planned Parenthood eligible for relief.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, nailed the attitude many have when it comes to the party’s obsession with abortion.

Cruz took to Twitter to respond to a tweet from Bloomberg reporter Steven Dennis, who reported that he was told a remaining snag in the stimulus agreement was that Democrats “want abortion providers like Planned Parenthood to be eligible for aid under the small business portion of the bill.”

“This is why everyone hates Washington politics,” the senator tweeted. “Millions of Americans are suffering and the Democrats are holding desperately-needed relief hostage for funds to support abortion.”

Dennis reported that Republicans had put in language barring nonprofits that receive Medicaid funding, which includes Planned Parenthood, from accessing aid included in the package.

Citing a Democratic aide, the reporter said the opposition claimed that the language affected nonprofits other than Planned Parenthood, naming nursing homes, mental health providers, rape crisis centers, home health agencies, and group homes for people with disabilities.

Another certainty in American politics is that when it comes to killing unborn babies, there’s no middle ground.

Here’s a sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
