Tucker waves red flag over dangerous Dem push to release prisoners early, reduce arrests amid COVID-19

Many of the same Democrat political leaders who’re rushing amid the coronavirus pandemic to restrict their law-abiding citizens’ right to move freely, run a business and earn a living are for some inexplicable reason doing what is essentially the opposite for criminals.

In Los Angeles, Cleveland [and] other cities, officials have begun releasing prisoners early,” Fox News host Tucker Carlson explained Wednesday.

They want to do that anyway, of course, but now they can say it’s to contain the coronavirus. They’re not explaining how exactly. They’re just doing it.

Listen:

He wasn’t entirely correct. Localities like Los Angeles have justified their plans to release inmates on the basis that it’d boost social distancing.

It’s believed that reducing the number of inmates and thus making jails and prisons less crowded would allow for inmates to be better separated from one another.

It’s not clear though how this would inhibit the spread of the coronavirus. The argument could be made, for instance, that if coronavirus is present at a detention facility, then it’d be better for society if the inmates at the facility remain quarantined there.

Yet for reasons that seem all too familiar, left-wing legislators appear more concerned with the needs of criminals than the needs of law-abiders.

“Notice there’s no compassion for the normal people huddled in their homes, sitting there as thousands of criminals are released onto the streets. Nobody cares about them,” Carlson continued Wednesday.

To make matters worse, as left-wing politicians are pursuing the release of more criminals, they’re simultaneously lobbying for the intake of fewer ones.

“In many cities, authorities are actually ordering police to stop protecting the public, to stop doing their jobs,” the FNC host explained. “In the city of Philadelphia, police have been ordered to avoid arrests even for significant crimes.”

Fact-check: TRUE.

A day after Philadelphia Mayor James Kenney, a Democrat, announced Monday that all “non-essential businesses” must close, local media stations confirmed that “arrests for a slew of low-level criminal offenses” have been halted.

“An internal [police] memo … states that crimes including theft, burglary, prostitution, stolen automobiles, vandalism, and certain economic crimes will no longer automatically result in detention,” local station WHYY reported. “Police will also temporarily stop enforcing bench warrants to individuals who fail to show up for court.”

“Drug offenses, prostitution, vandalism obviously are tolerated,” Carlson added dismissively as he continued his monologue, hinting at the left’s tacit endorsement of these crimes. “But now burglary and car theft get a pass [as well].”

“A person could break into your home in Philadelphia and not be arrested. Imagine that. Instead, the police will issue a summons for a later court appearance and send them on their way with a prayer that they’ll show up.”

Meanwhile, over in Fort Worth, Texas, local authorities are no longer arresting suspects committed of stealing items under $100 or committing vandalism.

“All of this is exacerbating obviously what is already a very volatile situation,” Carlson added. “Schools are closed, meaning that there are millions of teenagers with nothing to do. Most of them are good kids, obviously, but they are teenagers, and some will be troublemakers.”

“So how will they behave when they realize they can loot stores, steal cars or trash public places without the police responding to it? What do you think this is? You know what this is. It’s a recipe for chaos.”

Ergo why gun and ammunition sales have been skyrocketing across American — but particularly along the left-wing-dominated coasts. Americans feel unsafe knowing that their political leaders are not looking out for their interests anymore.

“If the police announce they’re not going to protect you, they’re not going to do their jobs because the politicians controlling them won’t allow them, and then they’re releasing criminals back into your neighborhood … it means it falls on you to protect yourself and your family,” Carlson said.

But even this is being stymied in some particularly radical localities.

“The mayor of Champaign, Illinois, for example, is claiming emergency powers that include the right to suspend gun sales,” the host continued. “The mayor of New Orleans is claiming even more power. She claims if she wants to she can ban the transport of weapons too, effectively abolishing concealed carry.”

“Obviously, it’s tyranny, but it’s deeper than that. So the government fails to protect you, it makes your life more dangerous and then it tries to prevent you from protecting yourself. What is that!?”

It appears to some sort of inexplicable insanity that, sadly, is spreading as more far-left-wing organizations and localities join the bandwagon.
