At this rate, we’re bound to run out of Americans soon, no?
Former Vice President Joe Biden claimed at the Democratic debate in Charleston, South Carolina, that “150 million people” in the United States have been killed by gun violence since 2007, never mind that this would equate to almost half of the country’s estimated 320 million population.
Not to be outdone, socialist Bernie Sanders’ campaign claimed Saturday on Twitter that “500 mil Americans go bankrupt from medical debt every year.”
The tweet was from Briahna Joy Gray, who is Sanders’ national press secretary, and she would clarify in another tweet that she meant 500,000 Americans.
It’s great that everyone is coming together around this crisis. But people are in crisis everyday. 500 mil Americans go bankrupt from medical debt every year. 68 mil are un or underinsured. We’ve been in a state of emergency. We need a president who acts like it. #Bernie2020

But then, math is not a standpoint for Bernie Bros, as the candidate himself struggles to explain how his “Medicare for All” plan nationalizing health care in America will be paid for.
Gray’s tweet came while panning Biden’s health care plan for discriminating against those too poor to pay.
“Either healthcare is a human right, or it isn’t,” Gray noted.
It’s not, of course.
Health care is a good, much like food, clothing, and shelter are, and no one is entitled to these things, progressive dogma notwithstanding.
Sanders has made the 500,000 bankruptcy claim in debates
“You’ve got 500,000 people going bankrupt because they cannot pay their medical bills,” Sanders said in January. “We’re spending twice as much per capita on health care as do the people of any other country.”
“Look, we have talked about health care for all — in this country — for over 100 years,” Sanders added. “Now is the time to take on the greed and corruption of the health-care industry, of the drug companies, and finally provide health care to all through a Medicare-for-All single-payer program.”
The claim earned “Three Pinocchios” from the Washington Post, of all people, which said the public health journal study the campaign cites “doesn’t establish that.”
Needless to say, social media users were brutal in their response to the story, as seen here in the responses on Twitter:
Bernie math

Numbers aren’t really a thing for #Bernie2020 supporters. Whether it’s cost of programs or number of people affected, they just pull stuff out of their asses.

There aren’t even 350 million Americans, let alone 500 million.

Bernie doesn’t have a plan, even after five years, just promises. The race is over, Bernie lost. He helped Trump in 2016. We can’t afford for him to help Trump get re elected.

That’s a pretty tall order since we only have roughly 300 million people in the USA. I know, MaTh iS hArD amiright? ???

This is obviously wrong. Why haven’t you deleted it? You’re just giving anti-Bernie people excuses to make fun of you!

Lies lies lies lies. Spreading lies isn’t going to help your candidate win. It’s clear that a Democratic Socialist with pie in the sky plans will not be the nominee

First the left can’t divide 50 billion by 320 million. Now they are claiming an extra 180 million people live in the country pic.twitter.com/smvO4WoOBa
