Exactly 17 minutes after Democrat front-runner candidate Joe Biden posted a tweet Friday afternoon to denounce a thug who’d unfurled a Nazi flag during one of fellow candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders’ rallies Thursday, the Vermont senator responded.
But instead of perhaps thanking Biden for his support, Sanders ruthlessly bashed him for the widely panned recent behavior of one of his surrogates, CNN contributor Hilary Rosen.
Look, and pay attention to the timestamps:
I don’t care who you’re supporting, attacks like this against a man who could be the first Jewish President are disgusting and beyond the pale. Hatred and bigotry have no place in America — and it’s up to all of us to root out these evils wherever they’re found. https://t.co/Q1Pz3hRUDS

.@JoeBiden must accept responsibility for his surrogate telling our campaign co-chair Senator @NinaTurner that she doesn’t have standing to invoke the words of Dr. King. That is unacceptable and Joe must apologize to Nina and all the people of color supporting our campaign.

Sanders’ caustic tweet referenced the feud that erupted last Thursday on CNN between Rosen and Sanders’ national campaign co-chair, Nina Turner.
During a discussion on Biden vs Sanders, Turner cited a quote from deceased civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. to argue that Sanders’ radicalism is more in line with the views of deceased civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. than Biden’s alleged moderation.
Rosen responded by claiming she was taking the quote out of context, spurring Turner into explaining that no, she wasn’t.
“He said it is the point that the white moderate wants things to be comfortable,” she noted. “And instead of focusing in on that, the bigger threat is not necessarily the white KKK member but more the white moderate that is more comfortable with keeping things the same.”
In response, Rosen shouted, “You know what — don’t use Martin Luther king against Joe Biden! You don’t have that standing. I’m sorry. You don’t!”
Listen:
The notion of a white woman telling a black woman that she doesn’t have the right to quote MLK was so appalling to the left it provoked massive backlash, to the point Rosen had no other choice but to bend the knee and issue an apology via Twitter the following morning:
Good morning. I have nothing but the upmost respect for Nina, her experience as a person of color, and the fight she’s waging in this election. Wake up this morning to this: I apologized + I take full responsibility. I look forward to the rest of the primary seeking common ground

I’ve called Nina to apologize directly. Whether or not she takes my call, I am still humbly sorry.

It’s not clear whether she and Turner have worked things out between them yet. What does seem clear to many critics is that there’s a certain hypocrisy at play with Sanders demanding that Biden apologize for the misbehavior of his supporters.
According to the senator’s detractors, if those are the standards by which he wants to operate, then he’s got some “splainin” to do regarding a large number of matters, including the habitually horrible behavior of his own supporters and surrogates.
Look:
@BernieSanders
Won’t apologize for the behavior of #BernieBros acting like aholes, but wants @joebiden to apologize for what some tv commentator said on @cnn.

I demand @BernieSanders apologize to all the families of people who had to watch their relatives and Friends die in similar conditions to the Holocaust in socialist regimes and still support the ideology that cause that suffering

You need to accept responsibility for your press secretary, Briahna Gray comparing demands for you to release your medical records to the birtherism smears against President Barack Obama. That was terribly offensive. You need to apologize to the Obama family & all people of color

When are you going to apologize to the people of color whose backyards you tried to dump toxic waste into? The female staffers who were harassed and dismissed by your campaign staff? The people David Sirota has lied about? Pot, kettle much?
— Brynne Chandler (@Brynnetania) March 8, 2020
Did you apologize to women for your misogynistic words and writings?
Did you apologize for lying when you said you’d release medical reports?
Did you apologize for being in the NRA’s pocket?
Shouldn’t Nina fight her own battles? #GoKnit— @PeggyBrava™ #Resist (@PeggyBrava) March 8, 2020
.@BernieSanders must accept responsibility for hiring as staff surrogates who advocated people vote 3rd party in 2016 including Nina Turner, Briahna Joy, David Sirota, and Susan Sarandon. It is unacceptable you hired people like that and you must apologize to the 65 million

@BernieSanders are you going to apologize for what your followers are saying all over social media? You know it’s a lie. https://t.co/TdXERUU6Fd

As of about noon Sunday, Sanders had not yet apologized. Neither had Biden.
