GOP-controlled Arizona House passes bill banning trans-males from competing in women’s sports

It’s quite a remarkable thing that in today’s age, legislation must be passed to prevent biological males from competing in women’s sporting events — yet, that is where we are in post-Obama America.

But that’s just what state Republicans did in Arizona on Tuesday, as they passed a bill banning transgender student athletes from participating on teams that align with the gender they choose to identity with, according to the Denver Post.

The newspaper noted the proposal is backed by the Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative religious freedom group, and is one of several efforts making their way through GOP-controlled state legislatures this year.

Needless to say, Democrats strongly opposed the legislation, proving that the LGBTQ community trumps women in the party’s social justice hierarchy.

Despite many on the left claiming there are no advantages for males identifying as females, citing hormone therapy, the physiology superiority of the male body in size, strength and muscle fiber is a scientific fact.

And the party that claims to look out for women leaves the female athlete at a noted disadvantage, having worked much of their lives to be the best, only to see males be allowed to dominate because they identify as women.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association governs school athletics and allows athletes to play on teams consistent with their gender identity, regardless of biological status.

In offering the proposal, Republican state Rep. Nancy Bart expressed concern for the future of women’s sports.

“Anyone who cares about making sure that … women are playing on a level playing field wants to see a bill that’s going to clarify that women will have that going forward in Arizona,” she said, according to the Arizona Capitol Times. “We want to make sure that my granddaughters and their offspring, that the future of Arizona has women’s sports in its future.”

The bill would involve a genetic test, but because of tests that have since been deleted called for a physical exam, Democrats called the measure the “show me your genitals” bill, the Post reported.

“Nobody wants to have too much of a heavy hand from the state,” Barto said of the bill’s revision. “What we want to make sure is done is that we clarify that men are not allowed to play on women’s teams and that there’s a way to determine their sex.”

In January, Barto commented on the bill on Facebook.

Media will continue to undermine the real issue unfortunately,” she said. “The fact is common sense fairness in women’s sports needs to be restored-immediately. It’s not a theoretical problem anymore. Women’s opportunities, for which they’ve fought hard for the last 50 years, are being destroyed because the playing field they fought to level is now uneven again. Even an average male can crush an elite female athlete. It’s unfair and it’s unsafe.

Democratic state Rep. Isela Blanc said the measure was “completely inappropriate.”

“I mean, if they want to debate genitals, I guess we’ll see,” Blanc said, according to the Post. “We’re talking about kids in sports that range in athletic ability, height, weight, age. And it’s all to go after transgender girls. It makes no sense. It’s completely wrong, inhumane, unkind, inappropriate and just mean-spirited.”

Eschewing science, fellow Democratic state Rep. Athena Salman said: “My caucus knows that trans girls are girls.”

The measure goes to the Senate and must pass there before making it to the desk of Republican Gov. Doug Ducey, who has declined comment on the legislation.
