Pence leads coronavirus task force in prayer, reverent photo mocked by the left

When President Donald Trump tapped Vice President Mike Pence to head up the U.S. effort to counter COVID-19, the coronavirus, Pence was quickly attacked by the left, in large part because of his Christian beliefs.

Right on cue, there was a quick reaction to a White House photo by D. Myles Cullen of what was said to be the coronavirus taskforce bowing their heads in prayer.

“Mike Pence and his coronavirus emergency team praying for a solution. We are so screwed,” tweeted Thomas Chatterton Williams, a contributing writer for New York Times Magazine.

Heaven forbid that the task force should ask for God’s guidance and intervention in a battle that could impact the well being of Americans.

An appropriate counter to Williams’ “contempt” was seen from Allie Beth Stuckey, a conservative Christian commentator who works for Blaze TV.

“What you see with contempt, others see with immense gratitude. Very thankful that the people leading this effort have faith in a sovereign God who hears the prayers of his people,” Stuckey tweeted.

In response to Pence being selected to lead the coronavirus task force, progressives pointed to 2011 when, as a member of Congress, Pence helped pass federal legislation that cut funding to Planned Parenthood, and that two years later, the last HIV testing center in Scott County, Indiana, was closed when a PP affiliate shut down because of public health spending cuts.

In 2015, as governor of Indiana, there was an HIV outbreak , the “worst” in the state’s history, according to the Washington Post, and Pence came under fire for saying that he would have to pray on the decision to authorize a needle-exchange program.

The spread of the disease was attributed to drug addicts sharing needles and Pence was hesitant to have the state distribute drug paraphernalia — he eventually relented on distributing clean needles.

“I don’t believe effective anti-drug policy involves handing out drug paraphernalia,” he told the Indianapolis Star at the time.

The incident was summarized by the haters as Pence wanting to “pray away” an HIV epidemic — a tactic being applied once again today.

Yet, amid reports that Afghanistan now has its first case of coronavirus, liberals such as Williams were silent in the face of an article noting Muslims in that country think that devout prayer will ward off the virus.

An article from the German media outlet Deutsche Well said some Afghans have been turning to prayer and faith to counter the virus, noting that there was a boom in sales of phylacteries —  which “are printed out Koran verses blessed by an imam and worn on clothes to ward off disease and evil spirits,” DW reported.

Pointing out the double standard at play here, Catholic News Agency editor-in-chief JD Flynn shared a photo of former President Barack Obama praying at a meeting in the Oval Office.

The reaction online shows that once again the left is out of touch on how Americans see things, as the power of prayer reigns supreme for believers.
