Gutfeld: Coronavirus exposes media’s ‘dark desire’ for catastrophe under Trump, will finally get to say, ‘I told you so’

Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld ripped the broadcast media for wielding the coronavirus as a weapon to criticize President Trump, noting the “media’s dark desires for something bad to happen so that all of their previous Trump hatred is validated.”

The co-host of “The Five” played a montage of talking heads politicizing the virus to go after Trump, throwing in a tweet from CNN’s “ball of hysteria,” Brian Stelter, who warns that the fears “experts” have about the president “may” be coming true.

“Relying on the word all CNN false fantasies bank on: ‘may,” Gutfeld noted. “Every story that collapses hinges on may — Trump may resign. Trump may not leave office. [Michael] Avanatti may run for president, Brian.”

“It’s a word that provides cover for the press’ delusional dream,” he continued. “And today, that dream is a disease. This time, people will surely die, but it will be Trump’s fault. And then finally, I will be right and Jeff Zucker will give me a lollipop. It’s a diabolic deal, welcoming a grim hell just to say ‘I told you so.'”

Gutfeld then turned his sight on New York Times columnist Gail Collins, who called the coronavirus the “Trumpvirus.”

“To which I say let’s rename dementia the New York Times,” he said. “Because only a truly mindless paper would still run her laughable drivel. They would rather politicize than help.”

The Trump-hating media having no credibility to be blaming others, Gutfeld insisted.

“So as these jackasses claim to champion credibility, their own credibility is a joke,” he said. “CNN, the Times, can’t be trusted on any topic, because their deranged filter spits out the same answer on everything: ‘Orange man bad.’ I’d call it a plague, otherwise known as Gail Collin’s disease.”

Co-host Dana Perino would point out that “humanity” has an invested interest in stopping the virus, and suggested that reporters at Trump’s news conference on the virus were more respectful and responsible.

Go-host Emily Compagno weighed in to say that President Trump is “damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t” when it comes to the media.

“So no matter what he says,” she observed, “everyone in the commentary is going to have that ridiculous reaction. In things that actually matter, which is public health and a threat of an actual fatality, then exasperation leads to zero tolerance.”

“As usual, we have people who are putting their own hatred of the president over disseminating simple actual facts that will help all of us,” she added.

Naturally, Juan Williams would suggest that Trump has the credibility problem, but co-host Jesse Watters put that notion to rest.

“I think the media has the worst credibility problem,” he said. “The American people trust the president more than they trust the media.”

Watters then explained why Trump is the “perfect” choice to take on coronavirus.

“The guy is a germaphobe who’s tough on China and is a border hawk,” he said. “He’s the perfect president to take on this virus.”
