Left fumes when Trump says Sotomayor and Ginsburg should ‘recuse themselves’ from all Trump cases

President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Monday to express his dissatisfaction with Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, going so far as to suggest the liberal jurists should recuse themselves from Trump-related cases.

Tagging Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” the president reacted to a scathing rebuke from Sotomayor on the court’s decision to allow the Trump administration to enforce its “public charge” rule, limiting which non-citizens can obtain visas to enter the U.S.

In effect, Sotomayor accused her conservative colleagues on the court of having a bias toward Trump, saying it has become “the new normal” for the majority to vote to put lower court injunctions on hold, adding it’s unusual for an administration to seek so many stays.

(Never mind that the left turns to the liberal courts to fight this president on almost every issue, especially in regard to immigration policies.)

“Claiming one emergency after another, the Government has recently sought stays in an unprecedented number of cases, demanding immediate attention and consuming limited Court resources in each,” she wrote. “And with each successive application, of course, its cries of urgency ring increasingly hollow. Indeed, its behavior relating to the public-charge rule in particular shows how much its own definition of irreparable harm has shifted.”

The president responded to highlight a little bias on the Obama appointee’s part.

“This is a terrible thing to say. Trying to ‘shame’ some into voting her way? She never criticized Justice Ginsberg when she called me a ‘faker,’” he tweeted.

The president added: “Both should recuse themselves on all Trump, or Trump related, matters! While ‘elections have consequences’, I only ask for fairness, especially when it comes to decisions made by the United States Supreme Court!”

In the 2016 election cycle, Ginsburg did call Trump a “faker” during a CNN interview.

“He’s a faker,” Ginsburg said of the then-presumptive GOP presidential nominee. “He has no consistency about him. He says whatever comes into his head at the moment.”

She said Trump “really has an ego,” and questioned how he got away with not turning over his tax returns, saying “the press seems to be very gentle with him on that.”

Ingraham had Judicial Crisis Network President Carrie Severino on Monday’s show to comment on Sotomayor’s rebuke.

Severino called Sotomayor’s dissent a “poor move,” saying her concern is misplaced. She also noted that the lower courts are issuing nationwide injunctions at a quantity never before seen — most cases reaching the Supreme Court involve immigration policy injunctions.

“This is something that never even happened in American history until 1963,” she said of nationwide injunctions.

“They are doing this all the time. These liberal activist judges have these knee-jerk reactions to Trump policies saying ‘we’ve got to stop this’.  They are not applying the same laws that they have applied to every single presidential administration before,” Severino told Ingraham.

Trump later double-downed on his call for Sotomayor and Ginsburg to recuse themselves while speaking to the press:

Trump’s statement unsurprisingly caused a social media firestorm where liberals sounded more alarm bells and were all too eager to call for the recusal of Justice Neil Gorsuch and Justice Brett Kavanaugh:
