Rob Smith, an Iraq war vet and political analyst, seemingly has little sympathy for the likes of Jussie Smollett, who last year filed a false police report in which he alleged a hate crime took place against himself.
Smith was befuddled by the idea that some people “find their identity in victimhood,” and it’s a trend that he is “still trying to figure out.”
“When did it become such a great thing to be a victim? That’s what I’m trying to figure out,” he said in an interview on Fox Nation’s “Reality Check with David Webb.”
“I’ve never seen myself as a victim. I’ve never portrayed that,” continued Smith, who – like Smollett – is a homosexual African-American. “But there’s so many people out there who seem to find their identity in victimhood.”

“And the reason why I come out as a black, gay Republican is to tell people that all those labels don’t exist,” he said. “You can believe what you want to believe. And as a black person or gay person or anything else in America in 2020, nothing is stopping you. But this up here,” he said as he pointed to his head, suggesting that intelligence and a willingness to use it is the most important factor to success.
This interview came on the heels of Amanda Seales saying that it really doesn’t matter whether the attack on Smollett actually happened, because “this is really happening all the time.”
“Even if it was a hoax, this is really happening all the time. And even if it was a hoax for the sake of bringing attention to this, then I’m like, that’s low-key noble,” she said, “I’m just at my wits end about us centering situations like this and wanting to make people have to pay.”
Smith disagrees, believing that the hoax takes attention away from actual hate crime victims who are less likely to be taken seriously as a result of high-profile lies.
“What I would say to that is that hate crimes are very real,” he noted. “People really are attacked for being gay, for being black, for being whatever, but a hoax like this hurts the real victims of hate crimes.”
Now, the former “Empire” actor is back in the spotlight after he was slapped with “a six-count indictment charging Jussie Smollett with making four separate false reports to Chicago Police Department” in relation to the hoax. Shortly after that news was released, BizPac Review reported that the two Nigerian brothers who were allegedly paid to perpetrate the “attack” on Smollett are “finally ready to testify in a court of law once his case goes to trial.”
“It’s been really hard for them,” said their attorney Gloria Schmidt, who claims her clients’ lives were ruined as a result of the hoax. “They’ve tried to kind of jump back into the life they had [and] they couldn’t. They were getting 4 to 5 auditions a month before, [but] that’s completely dried up. Their talent agent dropped them. … They’re eating at the food pantry. It’s not going well for them.”
