Biden calls voter a ‘lying dog-faced pony soldier’ and Twitter implodes

When you see John Wayne trending online, Joe Biden may be one of the last names you expect to be involved, yet the late great actor was trending Sunday on Twitter and it was thanks to name-calling from the former vice president.

Just when you thought the 2020 Democratic presidential primary race couldn’t get any stranger, enter Biden, who finds himself trailing badly in many polls and is all but desperate for a little momentum.

So what tactic does Biden employ to better appeal to voters? He calls them names, and when Biden starts throwing around names — the gang leader Corn Pop comes to mind —  it’s usually a doozy.

Appearing at an event in New Hampshire, an attendee references Biden’s fourth-place finish in the debacle that was the Iowa caucus to ask him how does he explain that and why should voters believe he can win the national election.

Noting that Iowa was a Democratic caucus, Biden asked the young woman, identified as Madison Moore, a 21-year-old Mercer University student, if she has ever been to a caucus.

She replied yes, which prompted the candidate to fire back, “No you haven’t. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier.”

Here’s another angle, and it’s clear the line was received with humor by the audience.

Referencing Biden’s showing in Iowa, Moore later explained to the Washington Post that she was”not one to just push on wounds. I’m not trying to humiliate anyone.”

“He wasn’t sitting in at the Senate trials for impeachment, so he had Iowa to himself. And then you have been a politician for like decades — how are you not way above all the other candidates?” she told the newspaper.

As might be expected, the left responded by reminding a 77-year-old Biden that “we canceled John Wayne a couple years back.”

Imagine that. And if that wasn’t enough, the legendary actor was besmirched as part of the white patriarchy. It was enough to wish Wayne was alive today just to see his reaction to the left-wing rubbish.

A spokesperson for Biden’s campaign said later the line was taken from a scene in a John Wayne movie in which a Native American chief referred to Wayne as a “lying, dog-faced pony soldier.”

Fittingly, Biden appears to have gotten that wrong too.

According to TMZ, the line is from a 1952 Tyrone Power movie, “Pony Soldier.” While there is a reference to a pony soldier speaking with a forked tongue in the film, there is not a specific line about a “lying, dog-faced pony soldier.”

There was a 1949 John Wayne film, “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon,” where the term “dog-faced” was reportedly used. But it was from the narrator at the end of the movie and not directed at the actor by a Native American chief.

Turns out, though, Biden has used the term before.

He used it at a 2018 campaign event for Heidi Heitkamp, attributing it to John Wayne then as well.

“As my brother who loves to use lines from movies, from John Wayne movies, there’s a line in a movie, a John Wayne movie where an Indian chief turns to John Wayne and says, ‘This is a lying, dog-faced pony soldier,'” Biden said.

Of all the online responses, Donald Trump Jr. tops the list, asking: “If he can’t handle a simple question from one of his own supporters, how can Joe Biden possibly take on Donald Trump one on one for six months?”

Here’s a sampling of other responses from Twitter:

As for John Wayne, all these years later, he is still the duke.
