Foulmouthed gangster rapper Snoop Dogg has threatened CBS News’ Gayle King for having questioned a former WNBA star about recently deceased NBA star Kobe Bryant’s controversial sexual assault case in Colorado.
Earlier this week King interviewed former WNBA star, Lisa Leslie. Following the interview, CBS News posted a small clip to social media that showed her specifically asking Leslie about Bryant’s case.
“It’s been said that his legacy is complicated because of sexual assault charge which was dismissed in 2003, 2004. Is it complicated for you as a woman, as a WNBA player?” she asked.
After Leslie replied that she’d never known Kobe to be “the kind of guy” to act in such a manner, King doubled down on her line of questioning, saying, “But Lisa, you wouldn’t see it, though. As his friend, you wouldn’t see it.”

After the clip was posted Wednesday, all hell broke loose, with a stunning number of notable figures bashing King for “selling out” black men like Kobe.
Leading the charge was Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., aka the anti-Trump rapper known as Snoop Dogg. In a profanity-laced video posted to his Instagram on Thursday, the brash 48-year-old rapper bashed King for attacking “your people” and threatened to “come get you.”
“I swear to God we the worst,” he said. “We the f***ing worst. We expect more from you, Gayle. Don’t you hang out with Oprah? Why y’all attacking us? We your people. You ain’t coming after f***ing Harvey Weinstein, askin’ them dumba** questions. I get sick of y’all. I want to call you one. Is it OK if I call her one?”
“Funky Dog-head b**ch! How dare you try to torch my f***ing homeboy’s reputation. Punk motherf***er! Respect a family and back off b**ch before we come get you!”

Broadus wasn’t alone in his anger. Other notable figures joined the chorus, including rapper Boosie Badazz, rapper 50 Cent, comedian Michael Rapaport and notorious racist Tariq Nasheed.

Responding to the growing backlash, King issued a video statement on Thursday bashing CBS for having allegedly posted the “salacious” clip “out of context.”
“Unbeknownst to me, my network put up a clip from a very wide-ranging interview,” she said. “[It was] totally out of context and when you see it that way, it’s very jarring.”
“I’ve been advised to say nothing, just let it go. ‘People will drag you, people will troll you. It will be over in a couple of days.’ But that’s not good enough for me because I really want people to understand what happened here.”
She added that the full interview covered a variety of topics — including Kobe’s “career, his passion, his sense of humor” — but that none of that was included in the clip shared by CBS News.
“For the network to take the most salacious part, when taken out of context, and put it up online for people who didn’t see the whole interview is very upsetting to me, and that’s something I’m going to have to deal with, with them,” she said. “There will be a very intense discussion about that.”

In a statement made to Mediaite afterward, a CBS spokesperson seemed to fess up to the perceived mistake.
“Gayle conducted a thoughtful, wide-ranging interview with Lisa Leslie about the legacy of Kobe Bryant,” the spokesperson said. “An excerpt was posted that did not reflect the nature and tone of the full interview. We are addressing the internal process that led to this and changes have already been made.’
Despite all the backlash, some have chosen to defend King on the basis that she was just asking tough questions as any real journalist is trained to do.
