Never Trumper Bill Kristol declares, ‘we are all Democrats now’; responses were long overdue

Bill Kristol, the founder and editor-at-large of the now-defunct magazine The Weekly Standard, finally came out of the closet and admitted what many long suspected ever since he joined the ranks of Never Trump Republicans.

“We are all Democrats now,” Kristol tweeted.

Taking to Twitter, and adding a caveat, as if that will somehow exonerate him down the road, Kristol reacted much like liberals did to reports that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., had the numbers to avoid the calling of additional witnesses to bolster the Democratic Party’s weak case to impeach President Donald Trump — a move that all but assures that the president will be acquitted in just a few days.

In effect, Kristol had a meltdown, declaring that he is now a Democrat at heart, mind, and soul, at least through the 2020 presidential election.

“Not presumably forever; not perhaps for a day after Nov. 3, 2020; not on every issue or in every way until then. But for the time being one has to say: We are all Democrats now,” he tweeted.

While we cannot confirm Kristol had a mouse in his pocket at the time to effectuate the use of the term “we,” it’s clear he believes he speaks for many — then again, if you watch CNN, which showcases almost exclusively Never Trump Republicans, you might think Kristol did represent large numbers.

Unfortunately for the Trump-hating political analyst, the president appears to have unwavering support from Republican voters — Trump recently boasted that he had 95% support.

Kristol expects conservatives to forget his electioneering for the Democratic Party, a common tactic seen from Never Trump Republicans like Rick Wilson, a favorite on both CNN and MSNBC for his juvenile assault on Trump and his supporters. Wilson, a political consultant, is often seen advising Democrats on how to defeat the GOP.

Columnist Kimberly Ross expressed a common sentiment among many on the right, given that the differences between the two parties have never been as pronounced as they are today, calling Kristol’s unholy alliance “nonsense.”

“Not even close,” she tweeted. “I’ve been an independent conservative since before the 2016 election and take plenty of issue with Trump and any uncritical supporters, but am no more sympathetic to the Democratic cause than I was before. This ‘Democrat by default’ mindset is sheer nonsense.”

In fact, the suggestion proved to be a bridge too far for CNN’s S.E. Cupp, another so-called Republican who loathes Trump.
