President Donald Trump’s legal team is reportedly planning to drop the kibosh on the Bidens, and both House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff and his devoted media allies appear to be none too happy about it.
Late Friday, a report emerged that the president’s attorneys are preparing to defend Trump by exposing the alleged Ukrainian-linked corruption of former Vice President Joe Biden and his scandal-plagued son, Hunter.
“Pat Cipollone, the White House counsel, and Jay Sekulow, Trump’s personal attorney, plan to use their time in the trial to target the former vice president and his son, Hunter, according to multiple GOP officials familiar with the strategy,” The Washington Post reported.
“Trump’s allies believe that if they can argue that the president had a plausible reason for requesting the Biden investigation in Ukraine, they can both defend him against the impeachment charges and gain the bonus of undercutting a political adversary.”
This belief is based on the valid, evidenced-backed theory that the president asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate the Bidens last summer because he was genuinely interested in rooting out corruption.
Nevertheless, the Post falsely framed this strategy as an effort “aimed squarely at muddying the waters surrounding the two impeachment articles of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.”
That’s partisan propaganda, not fact — almost exactly the same partisan propaganda that Schiff himself had spouted while making his closing arguments in the Senate trial only about an hour and a half before the Post’s piece was published.

“You can expect attacks on all kinds of members of the House that have nothing to do with the issues before you,” he said around 8:15 pm. “And when you hear those attacks, you should ask yourself, away from what do they want to distract my attention?”
“Because nine times out of ten, it will be the president’s misconduct, but look for it. Attacks on the managers, attacks on other House members, attacks on the speaker, attacks on who knows what. It’s all of the same ilk. Whatever you do, just don’t consider the president’s misconduct.”
Except “the president’s misconduct” would not actually be misconduct were Trump’s arguments proven true, as it’s not illegal, unethical or immoral for a president to express concerns about potential corruption.
“You’ve heard the further defense that Biden is corrupt, that Joe Biden is corrupt, that Hunter Biden is corrupt,” Schiff continued slightly later. “This is their defense … because what they hope to achieve in the Senate trial is what they couldn’t achieve through their scheme.”
“If they couldn’t get Ukraine to smear the Bidens, they want to use this trial to do it instead. So let’s call Hunter Biden. Let’s smear the Bidens. Let’s succeed in the trial of what we couldn’t do with this scheme. That’s the goal.”
This belief is based on the theories that, one, Trump asked Zelensky to investigate Biden’s alleged corruption out of a desire to hurt the former VP going into the 2020 election, and two, the president tried to blackmail his Ukrainian counterpart into launching this investigation by dangling a quid pro quo offer in front of him.
Listen to this part of his spiel below:
This theory suffers from some notable issues, including the fact that Zelensky himself has denied that a quid pro quo offer was ever made. Moreover, the president’s concerns about corruption in Ukraine preceded the request by months.
“Since taking office, President Trump has criticized Ukraine for corruption. … Mr. Trump’s skepticism on Ukraine was fueled even before he took office,” The Wall Street Journal confirmed last year.
Much of this isn’t widely known though because most of the establishment media have downplayed or ignored those facts that are favorable to the president.
When the president’s legal team finally presents these facts to the public — including the facts about the Bidens — their efforts “will mark the first time lawmakers or the public have heard a full-throated White House defense,” the Post conceded in their piece Friday.
It would be an even more “full-throated” defense were the president’s legal team allowed to subpoena the Bidens to testify before Congress. That would allow them to potentially validate once and for all whether concerns about the Bidens’ corruption really do bear merit. But the left has fought tooth and nail to prevent them from testifying.
Schiff went so far this week as to suggest that calling Biden to testify would amount to another alleged “abuse of power.”
“It would not be appropriate for the president to seek to call witnesses merely to try to perpetuate the same smear campaign that was foiled when his plot was discovered,” he said to CBS’s Norah O’Donnell.
“That’s an illegitimate abuse of the trial. And the chief justice, who may have an opportunity to rule on the materiality of witnesses, as well as the senators, should not permit that kind of abuse.”

It’s not clear what he’s trying to hide. It’s also not clear why the media continue to repeat Schiff’s talking points to a T without offering any pushback.
