Media in Davos confronts Trump on Greta Thunberg; his answer makes them and her look foolish

To hear the media tell it, President Donald Trump “slammed” child climate activist Greta Thunberg during a press conference Wednesday at the World Economic Forum, which is taking place in Davos, Switzerland.

To that end, the president commented on Thunberg making the cover of Time before him — in a political maneuver, the child activist was named Time Magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’ in 2019.

In his opening address at the annual meeting, the president warned the assembly about the hysteria over climate change, saying alarmists are “radical socialists,” the Washington Examiner reported.

“We must reject the perennial prophets of doom: They are the heirs of yesterday’s foolish fortune tellers,” Trump said.

Thunberg, 17, also spoke at an event in Davos, advocating for doing away with fossil fuels completely and criticizing world leaders for not doing enough to reduce carbon emissions despite claims of a looming climate catastrophe.

“Pretty much nothing has been done since the global emissions of CO2 has not reduced,” she stated. “[I]f you see it from that aspect, what has concretely been done, if you see it from a bigger perspective, basically nothing … it will require much more than this, this is just the very beginning.”

A reporter asked Trump about her remarks: “She had very strong words here, that the United States and other industrialized countries need to do more. Do you still feel that you’re doing enough?”

The president responded by asking how old Thunberg was — his point being that the media is being directed by a child.

A point that was either ignored because it did not further the climate change agenda, or simply was over their heads.

After asking her age, Trump added, “She beat me out on Time Magazine.”

The president touted environmental achievements in the United States.

“We want to have the cleanest water on earth. We want to have the cleanest air on earth,” Trump told the press. “Our numbers, as you saw, we had record numbers come out very recently. Our numbers are very, very good. Our environmental numbers, our water numbers, our numbers on air are tremendous.”

“We’re clean and beautiful,” he added.

As for Thunberg, Trump suggested she turn her focus on cleaning up other countries.

“You have another continent where fumes are rising at levels that you can’t believe. I think Greta ought to focus on those places,” he said.

While speaking with the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, Trump said of Thunberg, “I don’t really know anything about her,” adding that she seems “very angry.”

As for the “prophets of doom,” count Prince Charles in as one who subscribes to the catastrophic climate theory on the left — even though he traveled to the forum via a private jet.

In addition to meeting with Thunberg, Charles delivered “a radical speech where he demanded global green taxes and warned there is only ten years to save the planet,” the Daily Mail reported.

The British tabloid chided the Prince of Wales for sounding like the Swedish child activist.

“Do we want to go down in history as the people who didn’t do anything to bring the world back from the brink? The only limit is our willingness to act and the time to act is now,” Charles told VIPs at the World Economic Forum.
