Sheriff Richard Vaughn of Grayson County, Virginia, told a reporter at the Lobby Day, pro-Second Amendment rally that he was there to warn lawmakers that their gun control legislation will not be enforced in his jurisdiction.
“If the bills go through as proposed, they will not be enforced. They are unconstitutional,” the sheriff said.
We swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of Virginia and that’s what we’ll do,” he continued.
Vaughn and several other uniformed law enforcement officers were among the tens of thousands of peaceful protesters outside the state capitol in Richmond on Sunday.

The strength and beauty of the U.S. Constitution is a marvel to behold when officials–law enforcement, military members, and even the occasional politician–take their oath of office seriously.
The Grayson County Sheriff’s office is loud and proud about their position on the Second Amendment, posting images to their official Facebook page showing their participation in the rally …
Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins was also at the rally. Jenkins recently made news when he said that he would deputize thousands of gun owners in his county if lawmakers proceed with unconstitutional legislation.
“My intent was to swear in thousands of auxiliary deputy sheriffs and make it legal for them to possess the weapons that they’re trying to ban and restrict,” Jenkins said.
According to KATC, “dozens of sheriffs in Virginia have stated that their departments would not enforce gun laws they feel are unconstitutional.”
When asked if his department would enforce new gun control laws if passed, Jenkins said: “I’ll have to make a determination if these laws they pass are a violation of [the Constitution],” Jenkins said.
“Right now, it’s hard to say that we’re going to disarm our citizens who often have a 10- or 15-minute response time in rural areas for an officer to arrive and say we’re going to disarm the homeowner and restrict their rights to defend themselves,” Sheriff Jenkins added.
According to VACapitol2020, an estimated 22,000 attended the rally.

In spite of all the dire liberal predictions of doom and confrontations, thousands of armed demonstrators remained respectful and peaceful.
Only one arrest was reportedly made during the rally, when a 21 year old woman repeatedly defied a Richmond police officer who warned her to remove a bandanna from over face. She was charged with a felony …
Governor Ralph Northam claimed in his State of the Commonwealth address last week that the reason Democrats were elected to wield a legislative majority in the November 2019 election was a mass shooting at a Virginia Beach municipal complex last year.
“Virginians watched. They saw what happened, and they were appalled. So they changed the legislature. And here we are,” Northam said.
Strong opposition in the state to an “assault weapons” ban caused that proposed bill to be dropped earlier in the week. But several other bills remain in the pipeline, to include a controversial “red flag” law that would allow police to confiscate firearms from gun owners who are accused of being a danger, without due process.
