In 2016, a CNN contributor tried to help then-Democrat presidential primary candidate Hillary Clinton (and thus hurt then-second place candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders) by illicitly forwarding her advance copies of town hall questions.
During Tuesday’s Democrat primary debate in Iowa four years later, another CNN contributor blatantly tried to help Democrat presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren (and thus hurt current Democrat presidential candidate Sanders AGAIN).
Apparently, some things never change.

During an exchange at Tuesday’s CNN-hosted debate, moderator Abby Phillip questioned candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders about unproven and highly dubious accusations that he once told Warren that a woman cannot win the 2020 presidential election.
The senator promptly denied the accusations, saying, “I didn’t say that. … Anybody who knows me knows that it’s incomprehensible that I would think that a woman cannot be president of the United States.”
He added that there’s even a video on YouTube of him speaking 32 years ago about how a woman could one day be the president.
Fact-check: TRUE.

Phillip responded by seeking confirmation.
“So Senator Sanders, I do want to be clear here, you’re saying that you never told Senator Warren that a woman could not win the election?” she said.
“That is correct,” Sanders replied in the affirmative.
What happened next shocked viewers from both sides of the political aisle, as Phillip chose to completely dismiss everything the senator had just said.
Turning to Warren, she asked, “Senator Warren, what did you think when Senator Sanders told you a woman could not win the election?”
She could have chosen to ask the fake Native American Indian whether she still stands by her original allegations and why her version of events differs from that of Sanders. But no, instead Phillip preemptively bought Warren’s narrative hook, line, and sinker.
The move spurred a widespread, bipartisan backlash on social media and elsewhere, with some commentators going so far as to blast CNN for being a “propaganda outfit.” Given that what happened Tuesday marked the second time that CNN had tried to “screw Bernie,” the accusation seemed to fit.

While numerous conservative pundits and activists chimed in, some of the angriest criticism originated with the far-left.
“The cable news network was consistently biased against Sanders at the seventh Democratic debate,” The Nation magazine complained.
“At the Iowa debate, Bernie Sanders’s most vociferous opponent was CNN,” The Intercept, another far-left news source, added.
“The moderator’s use of Warren to confirm a version of the story that originally came from Warren’s account of the meeting at the time signaled which side CNN was taking in the he-said/she-said, but it was confirmed by the framing of the question — ‘Why did you say that?’ — rather than asking whether he said it,” The Intercept’s analysis continued.
Tuesday’s events seemed to corroborate the oft-heard claim that CNN and its comrades in the widespread establishment press are beholden to the Democrat Party establishment and thus, seemingly always eager to spout Democrat Party talking points to a T or rig town halls and debates in favor of the party’s preferred candidate.
As to why they keep working against Sanders, there are competing theories:
CNN’s question was clearly designed to implicate @BernieSanders. It is clear that corporate establishment is anxious, fearing a revolution. @SenWarren is their progressive Trojan Horse supported primarily to hurt Bernie.

This isn’t to suggest that CNN is a monolithic news agency where every commentator and contributor wants to harm Sanders.
In fact, following the debate, host Anderson Cooper reportedly attracted some praise by providing some much-needed (but rare for CNN) fact-checking:
kudos to @andersoncooper in post debate analysis for noting only @BernieSanders and @ewarren were in the room for that conversation in 2018. Cooper dismantled the CNN analyst who bizarrely insisted it was a @CNN reported story and not he said/she said.
