Wait until the liberal anti-Trump media gets a load of the latest news on the Trump administration’s efforts to get illegal immigration under control after years of what has essentially been a free-for-all.
The Department of Homeland Security has started returning Mexican migrants deep into the country’s interior, according to Fox News. The tactic was reported to be “part of an expanding effort to deter illegal immigration and combat the ongoing crisis at the border.”
As of December, flights are being run from Tucson, Ariz., to Guadalajara, which is in Western Mexico, some 600 miles from McAllen, Texas, on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Migrants being returned are Mexican nationals from non-border Mexican states who typically have either recently illegally entered the U.S., or who have gone through the court system and were ruled to be deportable, Fox News reported.
While the media may currently be sidetracked with the Democratic Party’s dog and pony impeachment effort, as the House is expected to finally send to the U.S. Senate on Wednesday the two articles of impeachment their party approved against Trump, it’s only a matter of time before Americans are regaled with tales of woe from poor migrants who have been inconvenienced by the U.S. government.
Past practice has been to release illegal immigrants at the border, making it easy for them to try to reenter the United States again.
U.S. officials say returning people closer to their hometowns was requested by the Mexican government and is better for migrants, as it allows them to receive services from their government, Fox News reported.
Homeland Security planning to run two flights a week starting at the end of January and expects to return about 250 migrants a week.
“This is another example of the Trump Administration working with the Government of Mexico to address the ongoing border security crisis,” said Homeland Security spokeswoman Heather Swift. “Mexico has been a great partner in stopping illegal migration before they reach our border and in standing up the Migrant Protection Protocol which has allowed us to provide court dates to more than 55,000 individuals.”
The Migrant Protection Protocols, aka “Remain-in-Mexico,” returns migrant across the border to Mexico to await their immigration hearings, which was instituted by the administration to end the practice of “catch-and-release” where illegal immigrants are released into the U.S. interior to await their hearings — often never to be heard from again.
Open border advocates challenge the new policy, Fox News noted, claiming that by returning migrants to Mexico, it can place them in significant danger of kidnapping or violence.
The program is facing a legal challenge at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, with a ruling expected soon — the odds are slim the decision will be in support of the Trump White House.
