Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has had it with 2020 contender former Vice President Joe Biden’s repeated calls for so-called “common-sense gun safety reform.”
Speaking with fill-in host Jason Chaffetz late Monday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” Patrick argued that had Biden’s brand of so-called “common-sense” gun control been in effect on Dec. 29, many more would have died at the West Freeway Church shooting.

The shooting Sunday at a church in Texas by a deranged gunman ended quickly — and with the deaths of only two innocent — because of quick action by two of the church’s armed patrons. And the reason the patrons were allowed to be armed in the first place was because of a GOP-crafted law that went into effect in September across the state.
A GOP-crafted law that the Democrats, including Biden, have repeatedly criticized.
“There are a lot of people in this country led by the Democrats and the radical left and Joe Biden who highly criticized our law when we passed it to allow members to conceal-carry in church, to allow churches to have their own security force,” Patrick said to Chaffetz. “We passed those two bills in the last two years in Texas.”
On Sept. 2, two days after the Odessa mass shooting by a suspect who’d managed to obtain firearms despite being banned from purchasing them because of his mental state, Biden blasted the law and called it “irrational.”
“Dealing with firearms, it is irrational, with all due respect to the governor of Texas, irrational what they are doing,” he told reporters. “On the very day you see a mass shooting … and we’re talking about loosening access to have guns, to be able to take them into places of worship, it’s just absolutely irrational. It’s totally irrational.”

Patrick strongly disagrees with this line of thinking.
“I have a message for Joe Biden: We passed that bill out of the Senate, and I am proud of it,” he said. “Let’s be very clear to the American people that Joe Biden is dangerous. He’s not just an idiotic person who says impossible, absurd things, and he’s not just naive but he’s dangerous.”
“Americans who have to understand whether you believe in owning a gun or not owning a gun, that the Democrats are dangerous. If they get elected to the White House, they will pass executive orders to take your guns, take your ability to protect yourself, your family, your property, and your friends as those men did yesterday.”
As recently as Tuesday, a day after the lieutenant governor’s remarks, the former VP returned to calling for so-called “common-sense gun safety reform.”
Look:
2019 was a year of record violence — it will be a moral failure if we allow 2020 to be the same. We have to elect leaders with the courage to take on the @NRA and pass common-sense gun safety reform. We have to end this epidemic. https://t.co/Qhv4SVzc9X

“It’s idiotic to say to the American public that we want to take your guns and that’s going to make people be better,” Patrick continued. “There is evil in this world, Jason. There is darkness and there’s light and we all know it and that was evil yesterday.”
But some suspect there could have been far more evil had the church’s patrons not had concealed weapons on them to thwart the suspect mid-attack.
“A man pulled out a shotgun inside a North Texas church on Sunday and opened fire, killing two people, authorities said. It could have been far worse,” USA Today notes.
“Two congregants, both volunteer members of the church’s security team, drew their weapons and confronted the gunman, fatally shooting him and saving an ‘untold number of lives’ at West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, a town of about 17,000 people near Fort Worth.”
These are the facts. The big, bold and beautiful facts.
Since some Democrats apparently can’t read, here’s the section of the story from @ABC affiliate where they say not only did the shooter get shot (yes a guard was involved) but multiple churchgoers rushed the shooter and pulled out handguns. So lemme get this straight.
An evil man opens fire in church.
Two concealed carry permit holders engage him.
One dies protecting his congregation.?
The other kills the shooter from 50 feet in 6 seconds.
And Joe Biden says the law that allowed that protection is irrational?!

As a concealed carry holder, you hope this never happens, but it’s better to be trained & train continuously for unexpected moments like this.
Thank, God they had armed people there because it would’ve been a lot worse. Praying for the victims, their families, & the church. ??

Multiple other church members were armed and came to the immediate aid of the security guard. Contrary to the uninformed myths that surround concealed carry, there wasn’t some wild shootout where innocents shot other innocents. The legal firearms owners all acted responsibly.

“This was over in six seconds and if [the patrons] had not taken down that killer, there could have been ten or 15 people killed before the police got there. It’s the citizen’s response that’s the most important to stop these shooters,” Patrick concluded.
