Dem Rep Charlie Crist’s conservative Latina challenger pulls no punches in defense of Second Amendment

Anna Paulina Luna is a “proud conservative latina” running to unseat Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist in Florida’s 13th congressional district.

While her announcement was made in September 2019, the impeachment circus dominated the mainstream news cycle, denying oxygen to any story that didn’t directly contribute to President Donald Trump’s downfall. As such, it’s possible that many people may have never heard of Luna, though she is looking to change that.

She is an Air Force veteran who is unashamed of her conservative principles and heritage and she’s already been endorsed by Matt Gaetz, who she describes as “one of the fiercest voices currently fighting in DC.”

Her backstory is not one of being born into a family of politicos and groomed for the position. Instead, she tells a different tale; one of tragedy, perseverance, and determination.

“Where I grew up, kids couldn’t just leave. We had to fight our way out. My grandmother died of heroin use,” she admits. “My family fought addiction; many of them ended up homeless. But my mom, she’s my real hero. She raised three kids through a string of abusive relationships and still put herself through law school. That’s fight.”

Luna’s fight to get out led her to the Air Force where she graduated basic training at the top of her class, was elected president of the Airman’s Council and met her husband, who received a Purple Heart after being wounded in Afghanistan.

It was at this point that Luna realized she needed to get involved. She has voiced her full-throated support for President Trump and securing the border as step one of her immigration plan, which is enough to make her an enemy of the progressive left, no matter her race and ethnicity.

“My mission is clear: To protect life, our borders, our families, our God-given rights, our country,” she explains.

And her mission to protect “our God-given rights” includes the Second Amendment. Unfortunately, she’s been on both sides of a gun and it has only solidified her position.

She even pulled the “race card” on the liberals who dare to disagree with her position on firearms.

“It’s our right to defend ourselves, and if you think based on the color of our skin or our race, that we don’t have that right, you’re a racist,” she states unequivocally.

If she can keep her word and unseat Crist, conservatives would have a real powerhouse in Florida.

Crist, a former Republican turned Democrat, has angered conservatives in the past by claiming that he is “pro-life” by his own, made up definition. He may have gotten his just-desserts, however, when he received the mirth of his new colleagues after drawing the worst possible number of the room selection lottery. This is a process that allows for a completely random outcome, where – according to the number they draw – new congresspeople pick their offices. Out of 50 possible tickets, Crist drew number 50.

Karma for abandoning Republicans? Perhaps. But maybe Luna can make him regret his party flip-flop.
