According to the predominantly white authors who write for Teen Vogue, it’s contingent on white people this Christmas to talk about politics and “protect people of color.”
“Please talk to your family and friends about politics, even if it’s uncomfortable. Please use your privilege as a white person to protect people of color,” the magazine tweeted on Christmas.
But according to Fox Business Network host Charles Payne, a demonstrably non-white man, this request by the mostly white authors of Teen Vogue is a perfect example of the patronizing and pitiful soft “bigotry of low expectations” practiced by white liberals.
And you know what? He isn’t the only one who feels this way.
This statement in Teen Vogue underscores the paternalistic approach progressives have with “people of color” who they view as too weak to fend for themselves. Bigotry of low expectations is most harmful form of racism. https://t.co/PRUAGNV6yQ

So racist. People of colour are not weak. Stop with these divisive and racist articles.

My best friend of 45 years is Barbadian. She doesn’t need or would want me to speak on her behalf. She lives a happy life with family & friends & has never, ever needed protecting in this way. She would find this patronising tweet offensive & insulting.

I am in a relationship with a AA woman and have been for 6 years. The one thing I have learned in that 6 years is she doesn’t need to speak for her. If she feels wronged or discriminated against she will make sure they know.

This is why I no longer call myself a Liberal. People with this sort of worldview mask their racism with a thin veneer of hollow altruism.

Well said Charles. I see this in public school educators, service providers, and admin. Very low expectations of minorities. Low expectations deprive them of advancing and developing the abilities and skills to achieve and compete outside of the classroom or community.

White savior indeed!
Many white liberals seem to believe that all non-whites (except the Asian ones, apparently) suffer from some debilitating condition that prevents them from achieving the same level of intellectual and career success as everybody else.
And so their success hinges on white liberals swooping down from the sky like Superman (or Super AOC!?) and saving them from the malicious evils of white supremacy, of the patriarchy, of President Donald Trump, of the bogeyman, etc.
As noted by non-white journalist Andy Ngo, it’s a “patronizing, pitiful and pathetic” mindset. One that winds up actually hurting the interests of minorities by conditioning them to be dependent on others for their success and well-being.
The great irony of this mindset is that it’s rooted in white supremacy itself since the assumption that minorities are too dumb to succeed is quite racist. And naturally, Teen Vogue author Elly Belle’s piece is itself rooted in plenty of this subtle racism.
“It’s always necessary to do your own research instead of expecting black people and people of color to explain everything to you, which is incredibly emotionally and mentally laborious on top of the oppression they already experience — in fact, that’s the whole point of why white people have a responsibility to stand up against racism,” she writes.
In other words, it’s important white people not bother black people with questions about their concerns, because they’re too weak and pathetic to answer questions.
But this patronizing condescension isn’t limited to just the white liberals at Teen Vogue and in the Twitterati. Not by a long shot. A study conducted last year revealed that this subtitle bigotry of low expectations is ubiquitous among all white liberals.
New Study Says White Liberals Dumb Themselves Down when they Speak to Black People https://t.co/FGpU549y2k ?
— Katrina Pierson (@KatrinaPierson) December 2, 2018
“You have recently joined a book club,” The Washington Post reported at the time. “Before each meeting, one member of the literary collective sends an email to the club secretary offering a few thoughts on the assigned text. This month, it’s your turn to compose the brief review.”
“A new study suggests that the words you use may depend on whether the club secretary’s name is Emily (‘a stereotypically White name,’ as the study says) or Lakisha (‘a stereotypically Black name’). If you’re a white liberal writing to Emily, you might use words like ‘melancholy’ or ‘euphoric’ to describe the mood of the book, whereas you might trade these terms out for the simpler ‘sad’ or ‘happy’ if you’re corresponding with Lakisha. But if you’re a white conservative, your diction won’t depend on the presumed race of your interlocutor.”
In short, white liberals like Belle have a tendency of dumbing down their language when speaking with minorities. Conversely, the same Trump supporters whom white liberals love to demonize as racist “deplorables,” have a tendency of NOT doing this.
Surprised? Belle would certainly be.
“The 2016 elections showed us that there are so many white people in this country who still carry really negative misconceptions and biases against people of color because they have either not been educated or challenged to think otherwise,” she quotes a far-left activist as saying in her piece.
So according to Belle and crew, voting for the president responsible for engendering a historically low black unemployment rate, signing into law the First Step Act and signing an executive order making HBCUs a priority for the Trump administration makes white people racist …
But talking down to non-whites and acting like they’re dumb? Well, shoot, that’s just makes you a good white person, didn’t you know!?
