‘Political operatives’: Lara Logan rips new journalism for throwing once-sacred standards out the window

While the average American might think that the mainstream media is doing the bidding of the liberal left, it’s rare to hear anyone from inside the machine calling out the bias. Former 60 Minutes correspondent Lara Logan doesn’t have that problem, however, and is taking journalists who work like “political operatives” to task.

She appeared on “Fox & Friends” on Friday and discussed the dismal direction in which she has seen her once-proud profession head. Logan was most concerned and disturbed by the fact that “as a profession, journalists are not more concerned about appearing to be political activists and political operatives.”

While she readily admits that everyone has a bias, she notes that the standards of journalism are meant to protect the consumers of the news from experiencing those preferences.

“Because we all have our own bias, right? And, the process is meant to protect us from that,” she said. “We take refuge in standards of journalism in order to protect us from that, and you don’t see a whole lot of that these days. I know there are a lot of journalists out there who feel this.”

While Logan may not be the only one of her colleagues to feel this way, she seems to be one of the only ones brave enough to stand up and say it on national television.

She is concerned, however, that the current state of political media is unsustainable, and she wonders if things are going to “stay this way.”

“And, I have to believe that it’s not going to stay this way, right?” she asked rhetorically. “It just can’t stay this way because everywhere I go in this country people of all stripes, whether they are Democrat or Republican, tell me all the time that they have to go to multiple news sites just to get to the facts and that’s not the world of journalism that I grew up in.”

What happens to the next generation of journalists? Logan is worried that perhaps those fresh out of college are learning all of the wrong things – the wrong reason behind the profession.

“And, so, what I’m concerned about is the legacy that we leave behind, right? Young kids coming out of journalism school — what have they been taught?”

It is just this kind of attitude that makes Logan perfect for her new Fox Nation show aptly titled “Lara Logan Has No Agenda.” The premiere episode will air in January and will feature a 90-minute border special. A veteran journalist, Logan even surprised herself with the kind of information she was able to get and urged viewers to check out the show.

“I mean, we are very proud of it. I have been a journalist for more than 30 years and I have interviewed all kinds of people, right? From presidents to rock stars. And this one is — it’s actually quite surprising what we were able to achieve,” she explained. “So watch this show.”
