Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino slammed disgraced former FBI Director James Comey in response to his sit-down on Fox News Sunday.
Appearing on Fox & Friends, Bongino was asked Monday to respond to the interview, where the fired bureau director criticized Attorney General William Barr for saying the results of the Justice Department Inspector General’s report shows the possibility that FBI agents — under Comey’s tenure — acted in “bad faith.”
(After all, among the “17 significant inaccuracies and omissions” found in the FBI’s FISA application process was the actual doctoring of an email to hide evidence and make former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page appears as a Russian spy.)
“He does not have a factual basis as the attorney general of the United States to be speculating that agents acted in bad faith, the facts aren’t there. That doesn’t make it any less consequential, any less important but that is an irresponsible statement,” Comey said of Barr on Sunday.
Bongino blasted Comey for the ridiculous remark.
“I don’t know what Jim Comey was thinking in that interview,” he said. “This is a deeply troubled guy. I don’t know if it’s narcissism or something worse.”
Bongino said that Comey “clearly didn’t read the same report I did,” before moving to dispel a “constant media myth” about the IG report.
“People keep saying on other networks and I have heard it, the report says there was no political bias, which of course Jim Comey just ran with,” he said. “That is not what the report says. That’s not true. If you read the report, what Horowitz said is he could not find documented evidence of political bias to initiate. That is not the same thing.”
“Nobody will admit it,” co-host Steve Doocy interjected, for clarity.
“Yes. Exactly. Nobody admitted — but what he said at multiple points was he couldn’t eliminate political bias as a potential motive,” Bongino replied. “I don’t know why this myth keeps getting perpetrated, and for Comey yesterday during that interview — and I thought Wallace did a good job pinning him down on this — for Comey to not just come out with a full mea culpa.”
The former Secret Service agent then detailed how Wallace “nailed” Comey down.
“There were seven lies or omissions on a spy warrant to spy an on an innocent American citizen,” Bongino explained. “He had no explanation. Not only were there seven, in the three renewals to continue to spy on Carter Page they added 10 more, as if seven lies weren’t enough.”
“And then they interviewed Steele’s source in January — January. They renew the warrant three times despite knowing, knowing conclusively Steele’s source said this is all garbage. Comey needs to just come clean,” he concluded.
Co-host Brian Kilmeade put an appropriate bow on the segment with his assessment of James Comey.
“He thought he was walking in to say I told you,” he said of Comey’s interview. “So he seemed stunned by the fact that Chris Wallace had facts and video. I have never seen anything like it in my life. Just totally detached from reality.”
