Stuart Varney sounds off: ‘The left thinks it’s finally got him. They are wrong’

According to Fox Business Network conservative commentator Stuart Varney, House Democrats’ decision to draw up articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump is a “huge mistake” that could cost them the 2020 presidential election.

“The Democrats are drawing up the articles of impeachment,” he said Tuesday on Fox Nation’s “My Take.” “Ooh, that sounds ominous. The left thinks it’s finally got him. They think he’s been so slimed that he loses the election next year. They are wrong.”

Listen to him explain why below:

Varney cited several core reasons:

  • One, the impeachment charges against Trump are flimsy.
  • Two, the GOP-led Senate will never convict him.
  • Three, there’s no “groundswell” of support.
  • Four, the economy is booming.
  • And five, gas is cheap.

Flimsy Charges

“First, impeachment — the charges, two of them, are narrow, legalistic, and to most people, thoroughly obscure,” his explanation began.

The charges also lack any mention of intent. In fact, Democrats purposefully dropped the additional charge of bribery because of their inability to prove intent.

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, who graduated Harvard Law School cum laude in 2007, has argued that without intent, these charges are equivalent to “a prosecutor redefining first-degree murder to include accidental death (robbing the crime of its vital intent component), and then going ahead and charging first-degree murder.”

No Conviction

“The Republican Senate will not vote to end his presidency,” Varney continued. “In fact, they may turn the tables and embarrass Democrats like Adam Schiff.”

While there’s no doubt that the GOP-led Senate will never convict Trump, questions remain over how Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Judiciary Committee chair Lindsey Graham intend to handle the president’s trial.

Will they comply with the president’s demands and subpoena the partisan whistleblower, Adam Schiff, Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, etc.? Or will they snub his requests and just rush the trial so that they may move on to something else?

Reports suggest they’re aiming for the latter:

No Groundswell Of Support

“And after endless televised hearings, there is no groundswell among voters to throw him out,” Varney added. “Impeachment may turn out to be worse for Democrats than the president.”

And that, he continued, is in part because the president has refused to take the allegations lying down.

“You know Mr. Trump is going to punch back hard,” he said. “Tonight he holds another ‘Keep America Great’ rally in Pennsylvania. That is a battleground state where the economy is doing very well. He will be the live-action president battling the beltway. He’ll beat up the impeachment brigade and tirelessly promote the prosperity, which we all enjoy.”

Booming Economy

“Americans didn’t pay much attention to the mind-numbing impeachment hearings,” Varney continued. “CNN went wall-to-wall with their Trump-hating, but their ratings over the Thanksgiving period hit a 3-year low. The trump-hating media is losing.”

Fact-check: TRUE.

“Instead, Americans are enjoying the most prosperous holidays in years. The latest Gallup poll shows 55 percent rate the economy excellent or good. And 100 million of us directly benefit from the Trump market rally. Does anyone really believe that if a Democrat won next year, the economy would keep growing? Really!?”

“You can bet the president will hammer that one home tonight!” he added.

Trump did:

Cheap Gas

Concluding his monologue, Varney then turned to the price of gas.

“It’s cheap!” he stated. “In 24 states, the average price for a gallon of regular is less than $2.50. Those 24 states represent 250 electoral college votes. He only needs 270 to win.”

America loves cheap gas. The Democrats have made a huge mistake, and they’re going to pay the price. On this, the very day when impeachment charges are laid, the president’s reelection chances look better and better.”

The evidence suggests Varney’s correct.

Case in point: On Tuesday, Quinnipiac University published a poll showing that opposition to Trump’s impeachment and removal from office has increased from 48 percent in November to a 51 percent majority.

“With Washington in turmoil and House Democrats poised to vote on impeaching the president for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, American voters signal they are slightly more inclined not to impeach than to impeach,” Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy reportedly said in a statement.

Over at RealClearPolitics, meanwhile, the average support for impeachment has dropped to a stunning record low of only 47.5 percent, whereas the average opposition has increased to a high of 44.2 percent.

Considering that the average difference between support and opposition used to be nearly 10 percentage points, this is “huge.”
