Rasmussen on Drudge Report: ‘We don’t think Matt is there anymore, word is he sold, just waiting for confirmation’

He had a good run, but according to unconfirmed reports, that run may be over.

For years Matt Drudge has stood tall as America’s number one news aggregator. And to this day he still holds that record, or at least among the elites in politics and media. Particularly those among the elite whose politics tilt heavily to the right.

But for everyday Americans, particularly conservative ones, new competitors have slid into the equation, and according to the experts, they’re on their way to taking over.

Take the experts at Rasmussen Reports, a 16-year-old polling company founded by veteran political analyst Scott Rasmussen. According to them, not only are Drudge’s competitors taking over — but they’re taking over precisely because he isn’t even at the helm anymore.

Look:

In the tweet above, Rasmussen Reports’ official Twitter account wrote that “[w]e don’t think Matt is there anymore” and shared the rumor that he’s sold The Drudge Report to a third party.

As of noon Sunday, this rumor remained unconfirmed. Regarding the pollster’s tweet,  it was posted in response to Citizen Free Press touting its latest stats.

CFP is an aggregator just like The Drudge Report. Except that instead of just publishing stories from left-wing mainstream establishment outlets, as Drudge (or whoever’s taken over) seems to want to do these days, CFP also shares content from less established conservative outlets such as BizPac Review.

As of Sunday afternoon, for instance, CFP contained a link to a story from The Federalist by Mollie Hemingway entitled, “How To Prepare For The Impending Justice Department Inspector General Report.”

Not surprisingly, The Drudge Report did NOT contain the same story …

In fact, it appeared to contain zero reports about Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s incoming report.

Drudge’s site did, however, contain three stories from The Daily Beast, a far-left site that this year alone has doxxed a Trump supporter for making a meme about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, ran a patently fake news story about the president’s children and joined its left-wing peers in distorting what happened when the president appeared at a UFC fight last month.

Mind you, CFP isn’t alone. Numerous aggregators have emerged, including The Liberty Daily, The Bongino Report, WhatFinger, Bad Blue News, etc.

Is Drudge aware of his competitors? Some have pointed to the following tweet from a Twitter account named “Drudge Report” to claim that he is:

But how does he personally feel about his competitors? According to the following screenshots, he’s not pleased:

And are the rumors true that he’s sold the site? Some have pointed to the Twitter account’s profile description has proof that he has:

“The DRUDGE REPORT a U.S. based news aggregation website run by Matt Drudge(@DRUDGE). This is a FAN account,” it reads.

There’s just one problem: Drudge doesn’t run the account. A fan does.

However, as verified commentator Mark Dice notes in the tweet above, even the fan who runs the page seems to think Drudge has sold his site.

As for Drudge’s actual Twitter account, it’s remained completely empty for over a year now:

Nobody really knows for sure what’s going on with him, though many have wondered.

“[I]s Drudge beginning to turn on President Trump?” Fox News’ Jesse Watters asked during an episode of “Watters World” last month. “Many people keep asking me about this. I get texts, ‘Did you notice this? What’s up with Drudge.’ So we started to look into it.”

And what he and his team found at the time appeared to suggest that Drudge may have essentially sold his conservative bona fides for clicks and moola.

“Lately he has been absolutely terrible toward President Trump,” conservative podcaster Josh Bernstein also said last month.

B.J. Rudell, an associate director of the Center for Political Leadership, Innovation and Service at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy, also believes something is up.

“There is a deliberateness to this, in my opinion,” he said late last month to The Washington Times. “It’s been happening for over 100 days straight. There’s no sign of it changing, and so the question then becomes for me, why?”

Coupled with what Rasmussen Reports has claimed, it seems very possible that the answer to Rudell’s question is that Drudge did indeed sell — and that whoever’s now running the site ain’t a conservative.
