One would think that following the New York Times’ spectacular fail on the “image of Trump awarding Conan a medal” investigation, the internet would take it easy when the president tweets out a photoshopped image.
Well, today revealed that the internet learned nothing.
President Trump tweeted out an image of his head on Rocky Balboa’s body, and it was hilarious:

Liberals responded with their usual outrage and upset:

Donald Trump is the epitome of toxic masculinity. All this posturing, all this bullying, all the authoritarianism and embracing of dictators and war criminals is an attempt to hide a really deep and really pathetic insecurity.
It’s just…so unbelievably sad. pic.twitter.com/M3ITJwCJwc

Somebody’s in a fighting mood ahead of Thanksgiving? President Donald Trump on Wednesday blasted out a peculiar picture of his head transposed onto Sylvester Stallone’s ripped body from the Rocky III poster. https://t.co/1cu5qKCkqy

Meanwhile, conservatives and Republicans had a field day with the image:
DOCTORED???!
I thought Trump was a champion boxer!!
who could have seen this coming????
WHY WOULD TRUMP DO THIS?!? https://t.co/AkFJIBnVL8

Trump is such an alpha.
He triggers thousands of people just by tweeting an edited picture of himself.— perkele (@perkele63149125) November 27, 2019
The fake news just doesn’t stop! I mean we all know that’s really him. The truth is they doctored Stallone’s Head on trumps body.

As mentioned above, this is not the first time that President Donald Trump tweeting out a fake image has caused an uproar on social media.
Following the massively successful raid that ended in the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Trump posted a photoshopped image of him presenting the hero dog that cornered the terrorist with a medal. Naturally, the left pretended to not be aware that this was a fake picture, and actually investigated it.
I’ve requested details from the @WhiteHouse on this photo.
There was no such canine event on today’s @POTUS schedule but there is a Medal of Honor ceremony set here for later today for an active duty Green Beret. https://t.co/NESINT9J4b— Steve Herman (@W7VOA) October 30, 2019
The New York Times actually fact-checked the image, and contacted the man who was erased out of the photo to make room for the canine we now know to be named “Conan.”
Mr. McCloughan was awarded the Medal of Honor, the highest honor for valor in combat, in July 2017. He is credited with saving the lives of company members during a battle on Nui Yon Hill in 1969 near the city of Tam Kỳ, Vietnam. He was struck by shrapnel from a rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire, but repeatedly ran onto the battlefield to rescue his comrades.
The photo President Trump shared seemed to be an altered version of a 2017 photo of James McCloughan receiving a Medal of Honor. McCloughan told The New York Times that he felt President Trump was recognizing the dog’s heroism: “They are very courageous.” https://t.co/XUWwq0b9Ie

On a more serious note, President Trump did end up having Conan visit the White House to receive both a medal and a plaque, as BizPac Review’s Tom Tillison reported on November 26.
“Conan was very badly hurt … and they thought maybe was not going to recover,” Trump said of the hero dog. “Recovered, actually very quickly, and has since gone on very important raids.”
While even that heartwarming story had some critics (like CNN’s Joan Walsh,) it’s clear that this Thanksgiving, Americans should be thankful for a president with a sense of humor.
