Billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s first day on the campaign trail as a formal candidate for the 2020 Democrat nomination featured a stop at a coffee house in Virginia.
As seen on Twitter, the media were present in force, eager to cover the former mayor of New York City as he embarked on his quest to be the last one standing to challenge President Donald Trump.
“This is what happens when a newly minted presidential candidate makes their first official camapgin [sic] event a coffee stop. Former NY Mayor Mike Bloomberg expected at d’egg in Norfolk, Virginia shortly,” tweeted CNN reporter Dan Merica.

In a follow-up tweet, Merica noted that Bloomberg ordered a decaf coffee, adding: “So it begins.”
Fittingly, given the lack of excitement Bloomberg brings to an already dismal field of Democratic candidates, especially with the far left, the Daily Beast’s Lachlan Markay responded to the idea of Bloomberg ordering decaf in a caffeine-jacked world: “And so it ends.”
And so it ends. https://t.co/OfzOnRzvzA

Though, Markay was not the only one to offer this observation:

When Bloomberg took to the mic, he failed to convey any passion about his newfound presidential pursuits, cueing more mockery from observers:

Bloomberg, 77, declared in March that he’s too old and would not run and has now backtracked on that statement.
“To start a four-year job, or maybe an eight-year job, at age 77 may not be the smartest thing to do,” he said at the time.
The former mayor received only 4% support in recent polls and most Democrats view him negatively, but that didn’t prevent Bloomberg from rolling out his first 2020 ad promising a perfect utopia if you pick him for president.
As for reasons not to elect Bloomberg, beyond him drinking decaf and his efforts to ban Big Gulps, the Republican turned Independent turned Democrat provides a much more serious reason, according to Piers Morgan.
That being a”sickening suppression of his own journalists would shame even Putin.
Bloomberg is behind Bloomberg News, which Morgan said in a Daily Mail editorial is “one of the biggest and most powerful news agencies on the planet,” pointing out that “it boasts 2,300 journalists in 72 countries and 146 bureaus worldwide and has developed a reputation for important impartial journalism.”
“In the past four years, it has intensively reported on, and aggressively investigated, first Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and now his presidency,” Morgan wrote.
Morgan notes that Trump and Bloomberg were once “good friends,” yet despite his complimentary statements in the past, Bloomberg become very critical when Trump set his eyes on the White House.
“At the heart of their relationship lies billionaire ego,” Morgan opines.
There are also questionable takes on women and allegations of racism, but now that Bloomberg is running for president, how will Bloomberg News respond?
Morgan said the answer to that question is “absolutely atrocious,” citing an email from Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait that “revealed the news agency won’t ‘investigate’ Bloomberg, or any of his Democratic rivals.”
“But it WILL continue to obsessively investigate President Trump,” he wrote.
“It’s an absolute disgrace that Michael Bloomberg’s very first act as presidential candidate is to order a blanket ban on ANY investigative reporting on him or any Democrat candidate,” he said. “It’s even more of a disgrace that he’s ordered his journalists to ONLY carry on digging for dirt on President Trump.”
Morgan highlighted Bloomberg’s concerns about Russian President Vladimir Putin interfering in U.S. elections.
“Bloomberg’s been very vocal about the need to stop Vladimir Putin interfering with US elections, yet here is the same Michael Bloomberg pulling a disgustingly cynical stunt to suppress journalism that even Putin might hesitate to pull, and that frankly should disqualify him from becoming President,” Morgan said.
“Bloomberg News just ceased to be a news organization and became a dictator’s puppet,” he said in conclusion. “Shame on him for doing this, and shame on any of his journalists who accept it.”
