The Daily Show’s attempt to shame black Trump voter runs into spectacular backfire

Comedian Roy Wood Jr. tried to rally black voters behind a Democrat presidential hopeful in a new segment on “The Daily Show,” but things backfired when one of the voters turned out to be a Trump supporter.

Speaking to six black voters in Atlanta, Wood tried to gauge who everyone thought was running that best represented the needs of black Americans.

Two voters named-dropped Bernie Sanders, another picked Elizabeth Warren and then a panelist named Chris voiced President Donald Trump’s name to everyone’s surprise.

“Huh?” another guest said after hearing the president’s name.

“Explain,” Wood said.

“Some of the stuff I’ve heard he’s already doing, like prison reform,” Chris said. “He’s been hanging around black people as long as I can remember. They loved him until he ran for president as a Republican. Trump was the man.”

Prison reform has been a priority for the Trump administration and he’s made great strides in the area, but it’s, unfortunately, something the mainstream media completely ignores.

While Chris didn’t find much support for his Trump endorsement in the room, the reactions to the Democrat candidates that came next only made him look good. Showing pictures of each candidate, not one of them passed without a negative word from somebody. Kamala Harris was criticized for her controversial history as a prosecutor, Warren’s idea of reparations was laughed at and Bernie Sanders didn’t inspire much hope thanks to his recent health issues.

At the end of the segment, Wood then asked if the group thought any of the Democrats running could beat Trump in 2020. The consensus was that Democrats need to rally behind one candidate for that to be possible.

“So, we all need to agree on who that one candidate is and then all the other candidates support them. Tell me who’s that candidate,” Wood said.

He was greeted with a mix of names. After an awkward silence, Chris jumped back in and ended the segment with a bang, saying, “Trump 2020, baby!”

Wood then walked off the set knowing Chris had basically turned the segment into a pro-Trump ad.

“And there’s a lesson for Democrats,” Wood says at the end of the video. “You can’t win the black vote by pandering because black people are as complex as any other voter base. If you want our trust, make promises you can keep, walk it like you talk it, and above all, keep the faith.”

He then returns to the panel and leads a prayer, hoping Chris’ truck doesn’t start on election day.

The segment has gotten plenty of positive reactions from conservatives on social media, including the president himself who retweeted the final bit of the segment where Chris says, “Trump 2020, baby!”
