It’s time for the White House to ring in the Christmas season.
The annual Christmas tree arrived on Monday and was welcomed by First Lady Melania Trump.
This year’s tree comes from Mahantongo Valley Farms in Pitman, Pennsylvania. Valley Farms owner Larry Snyder won the honor of delivering the White House its Christmas tree through an annual contest held by the National Christmas Tree Association. Every year the winner of the contest gets to gift a tree to the White House.
The tree was delivered right to the front door of the White House by horse-drawn carriage and Mrs. Trump was there waiting. She then took photos with Snyder and his family, which included his wife Joanne, son Aaron and grandson Mason Snyder, daughter Lydia and husband Andrew, and granddaughter Claira Anne Bomgardner. Members from the military band were even on-hand to play Christmas music.
The Christmas tree delivered by Snyder will be a major festive decoration in the White House Blue Room. White House officials chose the specific tree, a Douglas fir, three weeks ago following a visit to Snyder’s farm.
“I feel extremely lucky to be the person who is providing the tree to the White House,” Snyder said about winning the contest, according to Daily Item. “It’s the home of the president. I feel very honored to have this opportunity to present this tree for display.”
Snyder has been growing trees for 30 years, and the tree selected by White House officials has been growing for 16 of those years.
“My husband and our whole family worked very hard for this,” Joanne Snyder said. “It’s unbelievable we get to represent all Christmas tree growers across the United States. It’s been an unbelievable experience so far.”

Mrs. Snyder said the family was also offered a tour of the White House after her husband won the annual contest.
The White House tree is required to be between 18 and 19 feet tall, and this selection from Snyder’s farm reportedly had to be shortened before being delivered. This is the 54th year a member of the National Christmas Tree Association has been able to present the official Christmas tree to the White House.
