Pelosi insists impeachment not partisan, because GOP is in ‘denial’ and not honoring their oaths

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seemed to indicate during her weekly press briefing Thursday that she doesn’t know the meaning of the words “partisan,” “bipartisan,” and “patriotism.”

While that may not have been the message she’d intended to convey, it was difficult to reach any other conclusion given her factually inaccurate insistence that the Democrats’ impeachment drive against President Donald Trump isn’t a partisan affair.

The insistence was made after a reporter tried to question her about the proceedings.

“Both sides have dug in, and impeachment has sort of taken on the tenor of being just like any other partisan dispute…,” the reporter accurately noted before being cut off by Pelosi.

“I don’t subscribe to that, so I can’t even answer a question predicated on that,” she said.

She does, however, subscribe to the conspiracy theory that the unproven crimes Trump has allegedly committed are “so much worse” than those committed by former President Richard Nixon, who was successfully impeached by a bipartisan coalition of congressional Democrats and Republicans in 1974.

It’s an ironic revelation, given what the reporter said next.

“There’s not bipartisan support [for the current impeachment drive],” he correctly pointed out, thus signaling that, unlike the House speaker, he understands the meaning of the words partisan and bipartisan.

In response, Pelosi then threw out a glaringly partisan statement about her Republican colleagues, all while coating it under the facade of ostensible patriotism.

Well, if the Republicans are in denial about the facts, if the Republicans do not want to answer their oath of office, then I don’t think we should be characterized as partisan in any way just because we are patriotic,” she said.

The House speaker appears to be under the delusion that the definition of patriotism is a Democrat-controlled Congress pursuing the Democrat Party’s agenda without any concern for what the legislative body’s Republican members want.

In reality, that’s pretty much the definition of being partisan.

“Partisanship is the term used to describe the support that a party gets from its supporters in opposition to the party’s political opponents,” the online educational publisher Tutor2u notes.

“It is most frequently used when referring to elected members of a party in Congress who are unlikely to compromise with the opposing party on legislation or investigations.”

Sound familiar? It should, because the impeachment proceedings have been highly partisan since the very beginning. The evidence of this lies not only in the loud protestations uttered by Republicans since the whistleblower fiasco emerged, but also in the roll call for the vote held last month to formalize impeachment proceedings.

As seen below, the number of Republicans who voted for formalizing the proceedings was zero. And the number of Democrats who voted against the measure was two. The stunning dichotomy was and still remains the most conspicuous, undeniable evidence that these proceedings have been, continue to be, and will likely remain partisan.

Pelosi’s monumentally false remarks about the impeachment proceedings not being partisan weren’t the only notable statements she made during Thursday’s briefing.

After she falsely asserted that her party’s impeachment hearings aren’t partisan, she went on to deliver a partisan attack against the very man her party’s trying to impeach.

“I believe that the truth will set us free,” she said. “[The] president has said to me that call was perfect. I said to him that the call was perfectly wrong. There’s something very sad about all of this because the president is undermining and threatening the fabric of our democracy and the patriotism of so many of the American people.”

Listen to the speaker’s second set of remarks below:

That was an extremely biased statement, given as it could easily be argued that the president has simply been standing up for what he believes to be the real truth, which is that nothing “improper” occurred during his July 25th phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Moreover, according to Indiana Rep. Jim Banks, an Afghanistan War veteran, the money wasted on Pelosi’s partisan impeachment hearings have allegedly engendered a total of $3.88 billion in pay cuts for service members. That’s not very patriotic.

And according to Missouri Rep. Vicky Hartzler, the hearings have distracted the Democrat-led House from other more pertinent issues. That’s not very patriotic either.
