Hundreds of Boston Medical Center employees complained about and/or protested attempts by first lady Melania Trump this week to shine a spotlight on an innovative new program designed to help drug-addicted mothers and their neonatal abstinence syndrome-afflicted babies.
“As you may know, this is an issue I am very focused on. I hope today’s visit helps shine a light on programs like yours,” the first lady said during a BMC round table on Wednesday afternoon about the hospital’s new Cuddling Assists in Lowering Maternal and Infant Stress (or CALM) program.
Learn more about the program below:
“As part of her visit, Trump met with families and infants getting support from the program, which has successfully treated infants and mothers since it was launched in 2016,” Boston University’s daily news portal, Boston Today, reported.
“It is my hope that what we discuss today will encourage others to replicate similar programs within their own communities,” Trump added during the roundtable.
For wanting to bring attention to this much-needed program, here’s some of what she faced:

Their beef? Besides the fact that Melania is married to President Donald Trump, the protesters were also upset that the Trump administration tends to prioritize the interests of its own citizens over the interests of illegal aliens.
“Outside, as many as 200 people, including hospital employees, protested the visit, saying the Trump administration is hurting the kinds of people they treat every day, like [ILLEGAL] immigrants,” local station WBTS reported.
“Cecilia Girard, a 26-year employee who currently works as a nurse midwife, said Mrs. Trump represented the same administration that has taken a harsh approach to [ILLEGAL] immigration, including caging some [ILLEGAL] immigrants who have tried to cross into the U.S. via the southern border.”
Roughly 250 of the center’s employees also reportedly signed a letter demanding that the hospital cancel Melania’s visit.
“She’s married to Donald Trump, and he is such a symbol of so much of what we stand against,” BMC pediatrician Dr. Sara Stulac reportedly said during the protest.
She added that Trump “has done more than anyone I can think of in modern times to work against what BMC holds as its core principles.”
And so because the Trump administration has been stalwart in upholding America’s longstanding federal immigration laws, the protesters believe it’s unacceptable for the first lady to try to make a positive difference in the lives of suffering drug-addicted mothers, not to mention their babies.
Neonatal abstinence syndrome is a devastating condition “caused when a baby withdraws from drugs he or she was exposed to while in the womb,” according to WBTS. CALM aims to alleviate the symptoms of the condition via cuddling, which has been found to help.
Melania chose to highlight the program as part of her Be Best campaign.
Today @SecAzar and I met with the doctors, nurses & leadership who are behind the innovative programs at @The_BMC. Their dedication and compassion for helping families and babies w/ NAS is an inspiration to us all! #BeBest pic.twitter.com/j3vyoddqVX

“One of the goals of the First Lady’s Be Best campaign is to provide support and education to families and children affected by the opioid epidemic and bring wider public attention to NAS,” Boston Today noted. “During her Boston visit, Trump, who was accompanied by US Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, also received a briefing on several other programs at BMC aimed at assisting pregnant women with substance use disorder (SUD).”
Despite the protests, it appears the first lady received a warm welcome inside the hospital:

She also received a warm welcome from Lauren Baker, the wife of Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker.
“I bring you greetings and gratitude from the governor,” Baker reportedly said to the first lady. “We are so proud and honored that of all the places you could have chosen to go and visit to build your understanding of this issue, you chose Massachusetts and Boston Medical Center.”
As for the protesters, while they certainly had their moment in the spotlight, since then they’ve received nothing but jeers and mockery from those Americans fed up with their brand of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
These deranged SJWs took a bold stand…against Melania Trump cuddling drug-addicted babies.

Nothing says “I care about babies” quite like taking time off your job caring for babies to protest someone visiting a hospital to care for babies.
