Mexican authorities have reportedly arrested a man near the Arizona border for his suspected involvement in the murder of the nine U.S. citizens who were gunned down and burned to death by a drug cartel earlier this week.
“The Agency for Criminal Investigation said in a statement on Facebook the suspect was found in the town of Agua Prieta, right across the border from Douglas, Arizona,” Fox News confirmed Wednesday morning. “The suspect was holding two hostages who were bound and gagged inside a vehicle. Investigators found four assault rifles and a bulletproof SUV.”
It’s not clear how exactly they apprehended the man.

“A person was arrested in possession of two .223 long guns, a .308 long gun, ten .223 caliber magazines, a .308 full magazine, and a 50-gauge Barrett long rifle,” a translation of some of the statement above reads. “We are investigating the possibility that the person who was arrested had participated in these terrible events.”
No information has been released yet regarding the identities of the hostages.
The arrest comes two days after a large Mormon family with dual U.S.–Mexican citizenship was ambushed in brazen daylight in the state of Sonora while traveling to a wedding. Among the deceased were six children and three women. A dozen other members of the LeBaron family reportedly remain missing. Some survived.

“The victims are U.S. citizens who have lived in a fundamentalist Mormon community in the border region for decades,” The Salt Lake Tribune originally reported. “They were traveling in three separate vehicles when the gunmen attacked, several family members said.”
“They described a terrifying scene in which one child was gunned down while running away, while others were trapped inside a burning car. Two of the children killed were less than a year old, the family members said,” the report added.
The crimes triggered a wave of outrage over not only the deaths of U.S. citizens, but also the allegedly insanely brutal manner in which members of the LeBaron family, including the children, were murdered.
Absolutely tragic. My heart goes out to the family of these American children and their mothers who were brutally murdered by Mexican drug cartels, as well as any kids who are still missing.
May the barbarians responsible be buried with justice. https://t.co/ChhCuoQUuZ

One of the most gut-wrenching stories I’ve seen. A beautiful family savagely massacred by drug cartel. For this to be done to children, babies and moms is the work of an actual demon. https://t.co/thXn9M6ZIA

But while Mexican authorities have suggested that perhaps the cartel-linked gunmen had simply mistaken the family’s vehicles for the vehicles of the enemies they’d been targeting, evidence strongly suggests the perpetrators knew exactly what they were doing.
In an interview with CNN, Kendra Lee Miller, whose sister-in-law Rhonita Maria Miller died in the attack, claimed that those who were murdered on Monday were “not the first.”
“Miller told CNN her family has recently been threatened by cartels over where it can travel,” the outlet revealed on Tuesday.
Former Mexican Foreign Minister Jorge Castañeda reportedly added that the family has had conflicts with the cartels for awhile.
“They had stood up to the drug cartels and they did have certain frictions either with the cartels or with neighboring communities over water rights,” he said. “Their long-standing tensions, and apparently the woman who was driving in the first car that was attacked was an activist. She was someone who was very active in her community, defending her family, her fellow members of the community against cartels, on the issue of water rights.”
He further noted that the family had been benefiting from the protection of local authorities since 2011, up until the nation’s government withdrew support earlier this year. The withdrawing of support seems to coincide with the beginning of radically far-left President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s term in office, which began last December.
Speaking of which, the Mexican president has rejected an offer by President Donald Trump for the U.S. to send troops across the border and help his administration take out the cartels once and for all.
A wonderful family and friends from Utah got caught between two vicious drug cartels, who were shooting at each other, with the result being many great American people killed, including young children, and some missing. If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these…..

….monsters, the United States stands ready, willing & able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively. The great new President of Mexico has made this a big issue, but the cartels have become so large and powerful that you sometimes need an army to defeat an army!

This is the time for Mexico, with the help of the United States, to wage WAR on the drug cartels and wipe them off the face of the earth. We merely await a call from your great new president!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 5, 2019
In explaining the reason for the rejection, Obrador reportedly spoke of the need for peace. It’s not clear whether his desire for peace with the murderous cartels will provide any actual peace to the relatives of the deceased …
