Don Jr. quick on his feet in CBS lion’s den; won’t rule out political run, closes with classic Romney zinger

Donald Trump Jr. was on top of his game during a Tuesday appearance on “CBS This Morning.”

After being requested to “say something nice,” President Donald Trump’s eldest son was asked to name his favorite Democrat.

Hesitant to offer a name, Trump Jr. initially dodged the question, but as co-anchor Gayle King moved to close out the segment, he then chimed in, “Mitt Romney, Gayle. Mitt Romney is my favorite Democrat. How about that?”

Romney is the Republican senator from Utah, of course. A persistent critic of the president, there’s little love lost between the moderate Republican lawmaker and the Trump family.

Trump Jr. is plugging his new book, “Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us.”

His tome received a presidential endorsement from his father on Monday.

“My son… is coming out with a new book, “Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us” – available tomorrow, November 5th!” Trump tweeted. “A great new book that I highly recommend for ALL to read. Go order it today!”

King took exception to the book’s title right out of the gate, prompting an interesting response from Trump Jr.

“That is quite the title,” King said. “Listen, you start off by saying that you intended to write a book about forgiveness and healing, that it would be a political ‘chicken soup for the soul”

“That may have been a little tongue-in-cheek,” Trump Jr. said. “After what I’ve been through over the last few years, I probably am entitled to hit back a little bit.”

And it didn’t take long for impeachment to come up, as a pivot away from President Trump’s accomplishments.

Just as quick, the president’s son put the focus on Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, who’s leading the Democratic Party’s impeachment inquiry.

“Listen, I think you talk about reality,” Trump Jr. said. “When you look at what’s going on as it relates to the impeachment inquiry, you have Adam Schiff who’s been a known hater, this is a guy that for the last two years has been saying that he had information, and he had evidence. No one’s seen that evidence. He just keeps saying it.”

“[Schiff’s] being judge, jury, and executioner about a process where Republicans are not allowed to ask questions,” he continued. “Witnesses are told not to answer those questions. My father put the transcript out. Read it. Everything else is opinion.”

Trump Jr. later noted the Washington Post ran an article on the day of his father’s inauguration saying the impeachment process had begun.

“The impeachment process has been going on, Gayle, since November 9th, 2016, because you have a guy that did what he wasn’t supposed to do,” he said. “He took on the establishment, and he won. And that’s unacceptable. Let him do his job.”

He also weighed somewhat on his own political ambitions, after noting his interest at the moment is in his father winning in 2020.

Co-anchor Anthony Mason asked Trump Jr., “Do you see yourself running for office?”

“Listen, I don’t ever rule anything out,” he said. “The reality is, I like the campaigning part. I actually enjoy some of that fight.”
