Fox News prime-time lineup continues to dominate viewership ratings with Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson battling it out for the number one slot. In the Thursday night ratings, “Hannity” took the crown, tabulating a massive 3.6 million total viewers and 534,000 in the ages 25 to 54 demographic (A25-54 demo).

On Wednesday, it was Carlson on top of Hannity and Rachel Maddow, as he pulled in an overall audience of 3.1 million and 490,000 in the coveted A25-54 demographic.

“Tucker Carlson Tonight” placed second, drawing 3.3 million viewers and 532,000 in the A25-54 demo.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes came in fourth during prime time, while CNNers Chris Cuomo and Anderson Cooper were sucking wind.

MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” has occasionally been competitive in the ratings of late, but on Thursday, her viewership came in well behind at 2.9 million viewers overall and 519,000 in the A25-54 demo. That overall viewership number essentially tied her with Fox’s Laura Ingraham in total, who also had 2.9 million viewers. In the A25-54 demo, “The Ingraham Angle” placed fourth with 438,000.

That all resulted in a strong night for Fox News in prime time. Through the prime-time period, the network averaged 3.3 million total and 501,000 in the A25-54 demo. MSNBC averaged 2.3 million total and 409,000 in the demo. CNN placed far behind in third in prime time with a 1 million average in total viewers and 254,000 in the demo.

The late-night news programs are being led by Brian Williams’ show, “The 11th Hour” on MSNBC, who came in first for the third day in a row, edging “Fox News at Night” hosted by Shannon Bream. In that late-night news slot, CNN’s Don Lemon is an ongoing straggler, begging for viewers but getting few.

During the day, MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace beat out Fox News’ Neil Cavuto, 1.9 million total viewers to 1.7 million. Yet, Cavuto delivered the win in the A25-54 demo, 269,000 to 234,000.

Throughout the day on Thursday, Fox News tallied over 2 million viewers, followed by MSNBC with 1.5 million. CNN dragged itself across the finish line with only 875,000 viewers throughout the day.

Oh, and for the entire month of October … Fox News left MSNBC and CNN in the dust, again … for the 40th straight monthly basic cable win.

In case you are wondering about that key demographic, advertisers value 25 to 54-year-old viewers as a traditional sweet spot for marketing products and services, as they tend to be the consumers spending the most money for household and entertainment purchases as well as in other product categories.

TV news directors make story decisions aimed at that key demographic.

It should go without saying that it also helps for news directors to deliver honest news stories as opposed to fabricated political propaganda. With that in mind, CNN President Jeff Zucker might have to find a new line of work if he can’t find a little truthfulness in himself and his organization soon.
