Fox News flashes back to when Biden admits he urged Obama AGAINST bin Laden raid

If the world operated the way 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden feels that it should, both deceased Sept. 11 mastermind Osama bin Laden and deceased ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi would perhaps still be alive.

For evidence of this hypothesis, one need only examine the former vice president’s own words.

In a speech to House Democrats in January of 2012, eight months after the U.S. Navy Seals’ successful operation against bin Laden, Biden admitted that he’d urged then-President Barack Hussein Obama to not approve the operation.

Yet the former VP had the nerve this week to talk trash about President Donald Trump’s successful elimination of al-Baghdadi (more on this later).

“We had to make a decision,” he recalled in the clip above. “The President, he went around the table with all the senior people, including the chiefs of staff. And he said, ‘I have to make this decision. What is your opinion?'”

“When he got to me, he said, ‘Joe, what do you think?’ … And I said, ‘You know, I didn’t know we had so many economists around the table.’ I said, “We owe the man a direct answer. Mr. President, my suggestion is: Don’t go, We need to do two more things to see if he’s there.'”

Had Biden been in charge and the operation thus delayed, bin Laden may very well have escaped just like he’d done a decade earlier during the Clinton administration.

Speaking earlier this week with Fox News host Steve Doocy about this telling clip, conservative commentator Marc Thiessen noted the irony of it all given the former VP’s recent comments regarding the successful elimination of al-Baghdadi.

“It got pulled off, I think, in spite of his actions. The President should stay in his lane and listen to the military,” the former VP had said in a phone interview with MSNBC.

It’s fair to ask what would Joe Biden have done if he were President of the United States, and we have a little bit of an inkling because he opposed the raid that got Osama bin Laden,” Thiessen noted Thursday on FNC.

Since Biden recommended against the raid that took out bin Laden, it stands to reason that, had he been president when U.S. military forces recently located al-Baghdadi, he would likely delayed a raid and thus inadvertently allowed the ISIS leader a chance to flee.

“By the way, Biden was the only person around that table who opposed the bin Laden operation — everybody in President Obama’s national security team — so he’s the only one who had the poor judgment to say ‘don’t go,'” Thiessen added after Doocy played the clip up top of Biden from 2012.

So you’ve got the guy who opposed the bin Laden operation criticizing the guy who authorized the al-Baghdad operation. It makes very little sense.

Indeed.

Listen to his discussion with Doocy below:

“But the other thing he’s criticizing him for … his decision to withdraw from Syria,” Thiessen continued, turning his attention to Biden’s criticism of the president’s Syrian withdrawal.

“Donald Trump, I believe — it’s not comfortable to say this about a president — but he is a complete failure as a commander in chief,” Biden said after the withdrawal began last month and Turkey attacked the Kurds. “He’s the most reckless and incompetent commander in chief we’ve ever had.”

“The events of this past week … have had devastating clarity on just how dangerous he is to our national security, to our leadership around the world and to the lives of the brave women and men serving in uniform.”

To Thiessen, the hypocrisy seemed galling.

Joe Biden is the guy who led the effort to withdraw all of our troops from Iraq against the advice of commanders because he said it was the proudest moment of his life,” he noted to Doocy.

That’s what led to the rise of ISIS in the first place. There would have been no need for a Baghdadi mission if it hadn’t been for Joe Biden withdrawing all our troops in 2011.”

And Biden has indeed admitted multiple times — including twice just this past summer — that he’d played an integral role in overseeing the withdrawal.

“I made sure the president turned to me and said, ‘Joe, get our combat troops out of Iraq.’ I was responsible for getting 150,000 combat troops out of Iraq, and my son was one of them,” he admitted during a Democrat primary debate in June.

“When I was vice president, the president gave me all the easy jobs, like ‘take care of getting all our troops out of Iraq,’ which we did,” he added at a campaign event the next month.

It remains unclear if a man trained to perform “all the easy jobs” and seemingly inclined to run away from all real challenges is adequately equipped to serve as America’s next president. Perhaps he’s one of those individuals who simply sucks at leading. Either way, it seems clear he’s a glass house owner who really shouldn’t be throwing stones.
