Rand Paul continues to pound Graham for inaction: Hearings, subpoenas ‘long past due!’

In a blistering tweet posted Thursday afternoon, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul blasted his colleague, Senate Judiciary Committee chair Lindsey Graham, for talking the talk but not walking the walk. In short, he called him out for being full of Schiff.

“I’m fully supportive of [Lindsey Graham’s] symbolic resolution to condemn the secret impeachment proceedings in the House of Reps,” he wrote.

But …

“How about the @senjudiciary actually hold hearings and subpoena witnesses to find out how this hoax got started? Long past due!”

He posted the tweet shortly after Graham unveiled a symbolic resolution to condemn House Democrats’ “Soviet-style” impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.

“I have introduced a resolution today with Senator [Mitch] McConnell and the purpose of the resolution is to let the House know that the process you’re engaging in regarding the attempted impeachment of President Trump is out of bounds,” he said during a 20-minute press conference Thursday afternoon.

“It’s inconsistent with due process as we know it. It’s a Star Chamber type inquiry and it’s a substantial deviation from what the House has done in the past regarding impeachment of other presidents.”

He claims to already have 46 total sponsors, meaning only seven Republican senators remain unaccounted for.

Look:

While Paul appreciates Graham’s gesture, he seems to view it as insincere. Why? Because the South Carolinian’s actions haven’t typically matched his words.

Flashback to May 1, when Graham opened a hearing on the Russian collusion delusion conspiracy theory and hoax by announcing his intention to investigate whether the Obama administration had violated the law in probing Trump.

“Once the Mueller report is put to bed, and it will be soon, this committee is going to look long and hard at how all of this started,” he said. “We’re going to look at the FISA warrant process. Did Russia provide Christopher Steele the information about Trump, that turned out to be garbage, that was used to get a warrant on an American citizen and if so, how did the system fail?”

“Was there a real effort between Papadopoulos and anybody in Russia to use the Clinton e-mails stolen by the Russians, or is that thought planted in his mind? I don’t know, but we’re going to look.”

Yet following the hearing, the senator seemingly put on a pair of shades, leaned back in his beach chair, and fell asleep, metaphorically speaking.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson drove home this point during a monologue Monday evening.

“From the beginning, Graham promised to use his powers as [Senate Judiciary Committee] chairman — which are substantial — to get to the bottom of the Russia investigation: how did it start, as well as the bottom of other efforts by the American bureaucracy to control American politics,” he said.

“That’s a general promise, but Graham got more specific. He said he would find the truth with a series of actions. He would probe whether or not top DOD officials plotted a bureaucratic coup. He said he would subpoena Andrew McCabe as well as Rod Rosenstein if necessary. So far, Graham’s tenure has been defined by total inaction.”

Why then doesn’t just Rand get the job done? Because he can’t, he explained to Carlson.

“I can’t call committee hearings and drag these people in. Senator Graham has the power,” he said. “He is the chairman of a powerful committee, the Judiciary Committee. Yes, I’ve encouraged them publicly and privately to do this.”

“[E]verything the Democrats have accused President Trump of doing, you know, investigating a political rival with a foreign country, all those same questions should be asked of the Democrats: did they do that to Trump?”

Paul concluded the discussion by suggesting that perhaps his colleague is somehow beholden to the “deep state” …

“The deep state has an enormous amount of power to look at individuals, and so when Senator Graham and I have fought these fights in the past, I have always fought for having warrants where a real judge in public has to present probable cause,” he said.

“Lindsay has always fought for allowing these to be done secretly … there might be a philosophical difference, that he wants them to maintain their power, he wants to maintain the intelligence community’s enormous grip on things.”

As of Friday morning, Graham had not yet responded to these allegations and complaints.
