Obama and Robert De Niro buddy up in NYC for a ‘meeting of the minds’

Former President Barack Obama was spotted having dinner Monday evening with actor Robert De Niro in New York City.

The two were joined by Apple CEO Tim Cook at Yves restaurant in Lower Manhattan, in the Tribeca neighborhood, for a “meeting of the minds,” TMZ reported.

Obama reportedly signed a $90 million deal last month to produce a Netflix series on the Democrat Party’s partisan effort to impeach President Donald Trump, which is an interesting gig for a former president who may or may not have played a role in the events that have led up to the possibility of impeachment.

De Niro, a rabid, Trump-hating liberal, would be an appropriate fit for the project.

The foul-mouthed actor campaigned for Obama in 2008 and sealed his anti-Trump repertoire at the 2018 Tony Awards, when he declared on stage. “It’s no longer ‘down with Trump. It’s ‘f*ck Trump.”

It’s not clear why Cook would be joining them if the Netflix series was the purpose of the gathering, as Apple is set to launch it’s own video subscription services soon that will compete with Netflix.

For the record, as president, Obama gave De Niro the Medal of Freedom.

Hollywood’s support for Obama when he was president is legendary, with A-list stars lining up to steer millions of dollars into the Chicago Democrat’s coffers — attending Los Angeles fundraisers was a regular for Obama as president.

One of Obama’s last Hollywood fundraisers was a $100,000 per person event at the home of famed producer Jeffrey Katzenberg in Oct. 2016, ahead of the presidential election that saw Hillary Clinton fall in defeat to Trump.

But then, fundraising, in general, was a regular activity for the former president, as he attending nearly 400 fundraisers from 2008 to 2014 alone.

Obama delved into politics this week when he moved to endorse the “progressive leadership” of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau before Monday’s election.

“I was proud to work with Justin Trudeau as President. He’s a hard-working, effective leader who takes on big issues like climate change,” Obama tweeted. “The world needs his progressive leadership now, and I hope our neighbors to the north support him for another term.”

How’s that for foreign interference in elections?

While De Niro is always associated with the mob flicks that made him famous, the photos show Obama looking more like a mob boss.

Naturally, the responses on social media centered on the mob theme… here’s a small sampling from Twitter:
