In what was her first televised appearance in almost a year, Megyn Kelly appeared on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Wednesday, and like her or not, she can still draw an audience.
Kelly’s appearance drew more than 4 million viewers, according to Nielson, making the show the most-watched program on cable that night.
In the segment, Kelly called on her former employer, NBC News, to hire an outside firm to investigate sexual misconduct allegations against former “Today” host Matt Lauer, who was recently accused of rape.
“There needs to be an outside investigation into this company,” she told host Tucker Carlson. “They investigated themselves. That doesn’t work. This is how it’s done. You get somebody on the outside who can be trusted,” she added.
“Because here what Ronan is suggesting is that they covered up for one sexual predator — Harvey Weinstein — in order to protect another — Matt Lauer,” Kelly said. “They deny all of this.”
“And NBC has put out several statements saying that Ronan is a conspiracy theorist, and this is all nonsense and he’s got an ax to grind,” Kelly added. “If that’s true — and there’s nothing to hide — then get an outside investigator.”
Kelly jumped from Fox News to NBC News in 2017, only to see her show canceled in Oct. 2018 after a controversial comment about wearing blackface.
There were also reported that NBC executives where not happy with Kelly for giving airtime to sexual misconduct accusers of Lauer.
In addition to the appearance this week on Fox News, Kelly also took to Twitter to call out NBC, noting that a number of other corporations, to include Fox News, brought in outside investigators. This being a point she made on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
Fox News did so after sexual harassment allegations surfaced against the late Roger Ailes.
Kelly also called on NBC to release Lauer accusers from non-disclosure agreements — in all caps.
“CBS, FOX, NPR, NFL – all hired outside investigators. NBC again refuses to do so … as it claims it has “nothing to hide.” RELEASE ALL LAUER ACCUSERS FROM THEIR NON-DISCLOSURES,” Kelly tweeted.

An NBC spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter the network will not open a new investigation.
“There is no additional investigation being launched. We are very confident in the report that was conducted,” spokesperson Hilary Smith told THR on Thursday.
“We fired Matt Lauer within 24 hours of learning what he did, and promptly launched a corporate investigation,” Smith said. “Based on our investigative findings, we have swiftly taken appropriate actions to address the situation and improve workplace culture. It is also worth noting that this was a corporate investigation that was conducted by an almost entirely female team, none of whom are part of the News division.”
As for Kelly, it’s worth noting that her fall from grace at Fox News was over drawing attention to what was perceived as Donald Trump’s abusive behavior toward women.
But the reaction on social media suggests that when focused on actual problems, Kelly is missed at the network — with liberal Shep Smith announcing his departure last week, there is a mid-afternoon opening.
Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
We missed you last night. Sorry. You need to figure out a way to get back on TV doing investigated journalism. You’re at the top of your game when you’re doing that type of TV. You are missed!

They won’t because if it got out that he been doing this and keeping a blind eye on his action is guilt by association.

I’ve heard nothing but the need for transparency from NBC regarding everything…except when it concerns NBC. I thought they supported #MeToo?

Exactly! Why would the network need nondisclosure agreements unless they have something to hide. Just another way to silence (literally) women.

REMINDER: I’m sure there’s no love loss between Megyn and NBC, but remember she said much the same before her departure. She’s also fresh off of significant time in the network.
