Tucker Carlson announces Megyn Kelly’s return as guest; Fox News quells the rumors

Tucker Carlson announced that former Fox News and NBC news anchor Megyn Kelly will appear on his program Wednesday for her first TV interview since being fired at NBC one year ago.

Kelly’s sudden departure from NBC resulted from comments she made on the “Today” show in which she questioned and defended dressing in blackface for a Halloween costume. She said it was “okay when I was a kid” and did not understand how dressing in blackface could now be considered racist. A social media firestorm ensued and NBC quickly parted ways with the conservative news personality.

Carlson and Mark Steyn were talking about CNN and network president Jeff Zucker Monday evening before the announcement of Kelly’s one-night return to the network that made her famous.

“Of course Jeff Zucker wasn’t always at CNN, he was at another channel for many years. He ran NBC for a decade. Before that, he was the youngest executive producer at the ‘Today’ show. Things have not changed much at NBC since Zucker left. We repeatedly told you the network tried to cover up the Harvey Weinstein story. They sent the Access Hollywood tape over to the Washington Post and they are still lying about it.”

“Well, this Wednesday night, two nights from now, someone who knows an awful lot about NBC is making her first TV appearance since parting ways with that channel nearly a year ago. Megyn Kelly will join us as a guest on this program for her first interview. She’s got a lot to say. I hope you will watch.”

It will be Kelly’s first return to Fox News since she left more than two years ago in early 2017, after some public clashes with colleagues Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly. She also wrote a book about her experiences with former Fox News chief Roger Ailes, called “Settle for More.” Her star began to fade among the network’s conservative viewership the year before, following a volatile series of exchanges involving presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Upon leaving NBC, reports indicated that the anchor was paid out the remainder of her $69 million contract and that there was no non-compete clause attached.

In an effort to quell any rumors to the effect that Kelly would be brought back into the Fox News fold, especially given Shepard Smith’s departure, the network issued a statement that read: “Megyn Kelly’s forthcoming guest appearance on ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ was coordinated weeks ago and is a one-time occurrence. Any future programming changes we are considering do not involve her.”
