Trump shreds Omar in her own backyard, she responds like a seasoned politician

President Donald Trump was in rare form Wednesday night at the Target Center in Minneapolis, which is saying a lot given the president’s typical demeanor at rallies.

Coming across with a little more of an edge – almost as if he is angry – the man who has been targeted for impeachment from the very day he took office, the man who has witnessed top-level intelligence officials from the Obama administration maneuvering against him, was holding little back Thursday night.

With Trump being in Rep. Ilhan Omar’s district, it was just a matter of time before he turned his ire on the lawmaker, one of four radical freshman Democrats referred to as “the squad.”

Of course, being that Omar is one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, his hit was immediately labeled as Islamophobic — never mind Omar’s controversial behavior since taking office. Behavior that could also be described as embarrassing.

Her name came up as the president commented on how House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have turned the Democratic Party over to the radical left.

Trump then chided Minnesotans for ever electing Omar.

“I know the people of Minnesota,” the president said. “I want to tell you, and I also at the same time — it’s both a question and a statement — how the hell did that ever happen!? How did it happen?”

And Trump was just getting warmed up.

“Congresswoman Omar is an American-hating socialist,” he told the raucous crowd. “She minimized the September 11th attack on our homeland… where far more than 3,000 people died.”

This being a reference to her infamous line about the 9/11 attack, “Some people did something.”

“She pleaded for compassion for ISIS recruits right here in Minnesota,” the president said, before detailing her history “of launching virulent antisemitic screeds, whether you like it or not.”

“How do you have such a person representing you in Minnesota?” Trump said, before joking, “I’m very angry at you people right now.”

“She is a disgrace to our country. She is one of the big reasons that I am going to win and the Republican party is going to win Minnesota in 13 months,” he declared.

Omar was quick to respond to the president’s remarks, using his words to chase the Benjamins.

Taking to Twitter, she said: “At his rally just now, Trump called me an ‘America-hating socialist’ and a ‘disgrace.’ He shouted xenophobic conspiracy theories about me. He scolded my district for voting for me. His hate is no match for our movement. Stand with me by donating now.”

While Minnesota is a decidedly blue state, Hillary Clinton won by a small margin in the 2016 election, beating Trump by just 45,000 votes, or 1.5%, Trump was adamant about carrying the state, saying “We are going to win this state.”

Many in the media jumped on Trump’s attack of Omar as being over the top, but the president avoided some of the more controversial aspects of her life.

Things such as the persistent allegations that she married her biological brother to commit immigration fraud, and that she is reportedly having an extramarital affair with a campaign consultant, who is also married. There is also the controversy over thousands of dollars being steered to the alleged lover. In the face of these reported misdeeds, Omar’s husband has filed for divorce.

So, it’s possible to say that President Trump was showing “restraint.”

If there was a theme to the online responses, it seemed to be “truth” — here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
